  • ga ep43-ds3l wont post with g-skill 2x2gb ddr2 1066

    Hey everyone,

I recently bought 4gb of g-skill ddr2 1066 ram but no matter what i do i cant get it to post at 1066. Whenever i put the ram in and turn on my tower it just beeps over and over for about 10 seconds and then reboots and does the same thing. The only way i was able to get it to post again was to use an old stick of ddr2 800. Only then was i able to access my bios. Im currently running them underclocked at ddr2 800.
    My specs are....

Intel q6600 2.4ghz (was OC'ed to 3.4 but i clocked it back down for troubleshooting)
    gigabyte ep43-ds3l mobo
    radeon 4870x2 2gb
    850w psu
    4gb g-skill ddr2 1066 (under clocked to 800mhz to enable post)

I must admit i have never had any problems with ram before so my knowledge on specific things is a bit low but any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Ensure you have the latest BIOS for your mobo, preferably the either F8 or F9e (beta), but at a minimum F7 all can be found here:

    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...2847#anchor_os

Manually set base timing at 1066, need to get the actual timings from your package since you didn't list the model number, command rate will be 2T, and set voltage to highest shown on package (which can be decreased if stability remains constant. If additional help is needed, we will need the model of your RAM (there like a half dozen or so sets of DDR 1066 2x2 w/ variable timings and voltage defaults

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

I am using the latest bios for my mobo (f8) and this is my ram here..

I have tried manually adjusting the voltage settings and timings but nothing worked except underclocking the ram manually.

Still unable to post with those settings. Ugh, this is frusterating.

My goal is to overclock my cpu too 3.6 with 400x9 multipliers. I used to run those settings with my ddr2 800 but after i upgraded to win7 from XP the highest i could go was 3.2 at 400x8. (no idea why) I bought this ram to help me run a stable 3.6 again.

I'd just start at 333 FSB and get the RAM running and stable, then get into the OC, starting w/ the CPU, keep the RAM manual and at 1066. Don't think it'll OC to 1100 or better unless you have a very good set of sticks. As is you may have to loosen timings a bit on the 1066

I would just like to be able to run it at 1066 in the first place, i never wanted to OC the ram.

Still no go for whatever i try.

OK, assuming both sticks have been checked individually for errors and keeping in mind these sticks are 'tuned' for different chipsets, P35, 965, 974, X58, they should still work. Let's start w/ 1 stick in slot 1 (closest to CPU), go into BIOS and set to Optimal Settings, then boot. If it boots OK (or even if it doesn't), shut down then back into BIOS and see what settings it attached to the RAM through the Optimal setup, primarily the Command Rate (should be 2T), Ram voltage (should be 2.1), RAM Speed/frequency (1066), the tCL, tRCD and tRP (all should be 5) and tRAS (15) ........if any of these are different than shown above, change them to what is shown. Boot again.........If no joy (doesn't work) try from slot 2),
If boots OK add second stick and try....if not try increasing tRFC to 64-66 or 127ish (if in ns)...then get back and let me know what happens, will be on and off the boards most of the day.
