  • Help with F2-9600CL5D-4GBTD (2 sets, 8gb total)

Need help configuring F2-9600CL5D-4GBTD (2 sets, 4 sticks, 8gb total) on Asus P5Q Deluxe with Intel Q9550.
Want to have DDR2-1200, which paid for. I only get DDR2-800.
    Any help is appreciated.

Your basics will be the 5-5-5-15, Command Rate 2T, voltage 1.8. After that...whats your tRFC? prob want 84 or so. May have to raise NB voltage. Are OCing any (your CPU runs great OCed to the 400 FSB, but will need to raise vCore voltage)

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

I am not too familiar on how to set it up. I have this AI Tweaker utility in BIOS where all set to Auto. I don't mind OC the CPU to 400 FSB. I will later post what I have in AI Tweaker.
      Thanks.

Have you run Memtest on each stick individually to make sure all are good?
Do you have the latest BIOS for the P5Q? ver 2201 dated 7/3/09 - can be found here:

                  http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_I...ntent=download

If no to either of the above - take care of that first.

Next, take two sticks, install in slots 1,3 (yellow), go into BIOS and set to optimal settings. Boot and see what happens. If OK, shutdown and add additional 2 sticks (2 and 4), if not, put sticks in 2,4 and try. If OK add sticks to slots 1,3...if not put original sticks in 1,3 and go into BIOS.

W/ 2 sticks if no good boot, check that command rate is 2T, RAM voltage is 1.8, tCL, tRCD, and tRP are at 5, tRAS at 15, if not make manual changes. If those are all correct check tRFC should be around 127ns or 64 depending on entry, if not change it.

If good boot, add other 2 sticks.

If after other 2 sticks, still not good, up tRFC to 190ish or 86 (again depending on how it's entered), if still no go, raise NB voltage a bit and possibly CPU voltage (say around 1.3).

Once all is running and stable can experiment with lowering voltages.

Try above and get back, will be in and out most of day

PS...sorry bout last night, had a client/friend show up that needed a new box knocked together for his girlfriend as a BDay present for today.....unfortunately is was AMD and 1600 RAM and a PITA!!!!!

Thanks Tman, but no joy here.

Memtest and BIOS are OK here.

All mentioned by you, I tried and once get into Windows everything just freezes.

I did 5-5-5-15 with 2 sticks and also 4, tried 65ns and 85ns, upped the NB and CPU voltage to 1.3v, all experiments with 2 sticks and then 4.

POST shows DDR2-1200, but once in Windows (W7-x64), it just freezes on me.

Unless I put all to Auto again and 4 sticks are DDR2-800, then all is good. Otherwise all frozen.

                    Thanks.

Say you tried 65 and 85ms, if tRFC is in ns, assuming thats what you mean you'll need about 127/127.5 for two sticks, 195ish for 4 sticks

Maybe I am doing something wrong here, can you please tell me a utility that can show the right frequency /speed of the memory inside Windows 7 64-bit?
POST shows DDR2-1200, but msinfo32 from inside shows only DDR2-800.
