  • F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK on Asus Rampage Formula

Hi, I recently got this RAM and it's working great, but i can't get it to work at 1066, only at 800. I only changed two parameters in the BIOS, i set it manually to 1066 and put it to work at 2.1V. When the PC posts, it shouws DDR2 1066 dual channel ... but CPU-Z keeps telling me its a 6400 ram working at 400mhz. What should I do?
    Thanks for your help
    Regards
    Juan Ignacio

CPU-Z doesn't always read the RAM right, might try Everest. What shows in the BIOS is what you should be running at.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

It shows exactly the same for the other module. Is the memory configured properly and cpu-z and everest is showing it wrong? or is it indeed working at 800mhz instead of 1066mhz?
      Thanks in advance

that actually doesn't show anything how it's configured.. Try 'Motherboard'->'Chipset'-page would show latencies & on 'Computer'->'sensor' you'll get actual voltage. As for memory itself looks to be reading correctly it's SPD(Profiles Inside Chip).

Your NB is way too low. 1.33 won't even be enough on stock not to even speak of 1066Mhz. Needs to be around 1.440v at least. (that's 1.39v on BIOS). Suggest (1.43v to BIOS) that's 1.488v(actual), if that lower doesn't boot. I'm using same board and OC'ing like hell NB at 1.520v, anyway, those values earlier mentioned should do just fine considering it ain't 1:1 or 4:3 or anything like that.

Could need more information still to what clocks are ya planning of running this. Since OC'd system needs hell a lot of changes there, but all in all with stock multipliers 1066Mhz that might just do it.

Thanks for your reply genetix. I changed the NB value from 1.33 to 1.43 in BIOS as you told me but everest continues to show the ram as 800mhz. I don't inted to OC since i don't know how to do it without messing up my machine. I just want the 1066 memory i bought to work at 1066 and not at 800mhz as its working now. I would be happy if i just get them to work at 1066.
here's what everest shows on Chipset now.

This latest shows tRFC at 52, would want 64 or so, and do have the timings and speed set manually in the BIOS?

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

ok, i changed the tRFC value to 65 and all of the timings are manually set now that i had to enter the tRFC manually, but they are still 5 5 5 15 as they were when it was on auto.
anything else i should change? everest still showing it as 800mhz ram

Change the DRAM speed in BIOS to 1066Mhz would do might be that NB needs to be even higher for being stable at those speeds.

tRD / Performance Level / (Compination of Static Read & Ai): This determs your speed! I suggest you manually switch 'Static Read Control 'Enabled' and leave boosters etc etc as 'Auto' below that would make best of this board (however, this might cause as it's too low sometimes an issue on 1066Mhz).

                    add:
                    tRCD to 6T
                    tRP to 6T
                    tRRD to 4T

This should enable you to go to 1066Mhz, but it ain't nessessary stable with even as high as 1.42v NB. I needed more as I said, but I am not running stock clocks so that might do this setup.

This is one trick how you can POST this as 5-5-5-15 and absolute maximum the only problem is it won't be stable but you can save your current process as profile and try:
                    1. Load BIOS defaults 2. Reboot 3. check over clocking as 'manual' and Leave everything else in 'Auto' except Command Rate 2T and memory speed 1066Mhz, Correlate voltages to DRAM: 2.10v in BIOS (this is very solid 2.208v actual which is still just fine long way to limits), NB: 1.47-1.49v in BIOS (this is 1.520-1.536v actual this will heat up but with usual middle fan and basic config it'll be around ~45c NB) & add basics RAID etc etc etc setups you need for your system. 4. Reboot

^ Now that will POST in any occasion it sets the all the values pretty well, tWR, tRFC's etc etc needed except tRRD. However, this is very unstable configuration at least as far I tested, but IF it would for some reason be stable it would sure be fastest setup you can possibly do.
                    -edit #1-

Just for the kicks gonna try this tomorrow on my Maximus. See how it goes. Although, I'm running way over that config, atm, on my box on those same voltages/values (You can check actual voltages also on 'hardware info' page at BIOS to speed things up). Atm, running Prime95 myself so won't be booting in next 12 hours for sure.

                    -edit #2-

Hmm, if you get it stable please test it through memtest specifically Test #5 and Test #7 screens would be curious to check on stock 1066.

Run the Everest memory test in the "Tools" tab and it will tell you exactly what the memory is operating at. In CPU-z make sure to look at the Memory tab, memory frequency should be 533MHz.

Otherwise anywhere else it will give you DDR2-800 or 400MHz since that is the JEDEC maximum standard for that motherboard.

                      Thank you

in the Memory tab on CPU-Z, under DRAM Frequency it shows 534.3 MHz. So does on the memory test on Everest. Does this mean my memory is working at 1066MHz? Thats great. I still didnt make the changes that genetix told me on his last post? Should I still do them?
Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Yep, DDR2-1066 for sure. If it is stable, you will not need to make the changes.
