  • Help with my memory (wont run at 1200mhz) G.SKILL PI PC9600 Model F2-9600CL5D

Hi im having trouble getting these to run in my computer at 1200mhz. I tested them in prime95 at 1066 with no errors, but at 1200 i get errors. I'm not sure what to set the HT link, or the NB frequency to so I left them on auto.

Dram freq was set to the highest freq (1066) before increasing the fsb.

Here are the settings that I've tried:

    CPU multi - 13.5x
    FSB - 225
    Memory timings - 5-5-5-15
    memory voltage - 2.0v and 2.1v
    CPU/NB - 1.275v
    HT - 1.26v
    NB 1.26v
    SB - 1.2v

    System Specs:
AMD Phenom II 940 Black Eddition 3.0ghz
    Thermalright Ultra 120 heatsink
    Asus M4A79 Deluxe
    4gb (2x2gb) Gskill PI PC9600 Model F2-9600CL5D
    Nvidia 9800gx2
    Thermaltake Toughpower 1000watts
    Windows Vista x64

What specific set of RAM do you have? you show "F2-9600CL5D" but are missing the last didgits, prob either 4GBPI (the PIs) or the Tridents - 4GBTD, the two sets are totally different sticks except for the 5-5-5-15 base timings, we have different voltages, ICs, etc.

Hoping it the PIs based on the voltage you show, the Tridents max at 1.8.

Anyway do you have the latest BIOS, 2206, 9/17/2009, may have some RAM help, does have CPU updates, so should help out w/ MC, it can be found here:

    http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=F8NXs2xIQloc5nrb

Set timings manually as specified to 5-5-5-15, 2.1 volts (if indeed you have the PI series), command rate 2T

Ought to test each stick individually in slot 1, if any errors try in slot 2. If both good try running in slots 1-3, if no go, try in slots 2-4.

Also want to keep in mind these are rated as OC RAM , so you'll need at least a moderate OC on the system and appropriate voltage increases to accompany the OC

      Yes they are the PI's

      G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-9600CL5D-4GBPI - Retail

I do have the latest bios on my motherboard 2206. Memory is set to 5-5-5-15 2T. By OC do you mean that they will run more stable if I overclock my cpu? I havent tried overclocking the cpu yet but I was planing on it. In the bios there is a timing setting called dram timing mode that has 3 options, both, DCT0, or DCT1. What do I set that to? I have it on both right now. Also besides the basic timing settings (5-5-5-15)what should the other ones be? like TRTP, TWR, TRRD, ect..

Are there any other settings that I may be missing or have wrong like the voltages I showed you?

what are your tRC, tRFC speeds?

In the meantime, with current setup, might change speed to 1066 and see how that goes. We might get to 1200 with the CPU at stock, but think you are going to have to OC the CPU to get the 1200 going. The OC will give your MC a boost to accommodate the faster RAM speed, the OC will provide a little extra juice also.

I have both of those settings on auto. As I'm typing this I have prime95 running on the pc to test for stability at 1066mhz. If all goes well i'll try a moderate overclock on the cpu tomorrow.

Sounds good, I've got a 4:30AM to about 7PM schedule Fri so I....may.....stop in early in the morning or possibly early afternoon, but will prob be early evening. If you have additional questions befoer I get back, go ahead and post, Gskill tech should be in in the AM, genetics might be out, 4x64 is in and out alot.

Prime95 failed last night after about an hour at 1066 . I ran Prim95 with the memory set to 5-5-5-15 @ 800mhz and it ran fine for 4 hours with no errors.

What are your Advanced Timings such as tWR, tRFC, tRC, etc?

                Try these settings:

                Memory timings - 5-5-5-15
                Memory voltage - 2.1v
                CPU/NB - 1.275v
                HT - 1.40v
                NB 1.26v
                SB - 1.2v

                Thank you

I have them set to 5-5-15 but, I didn't know what to set the other timings to so I set them to auto. What should they be set to?

I tried those voltages that you sugested and ran prime95 for about 15 mins before I got a failure. just to give you an idea here are all the settings that I used:

                    Try
                    TRFC0 - 160
                    TRFC1 - 127.5

for both DIMMs. Let me know.

there is no option to set it to 160ns. 127.5 is there but not 160ns

this is what is there for both TRFC0 and TRFC1:

                      75ns
                      105ns
                      127ns
                      195ns
                      327.5ns

                        /bump

I can confirm now that this memory is running 100% stable in prime95 but at 800mhz. Please tell me I didnt waste 150$ on memory that wont run at the speeds its rated for. I'd realy appreaciate some help here.

Have you tried loosening the timings or adding an OC to the CPU?

I think I finaly got this memory stable. I increased the FSB to 300, set the multi to 10x, and lowered the memory ratio (1:2), and prime has been running all night without errors .

Prime95 test failed after 14 hours of running the test . At least im starting to make some progress which is good. I did notice something though, according to cpu-z it says my trc timings are set to 24 but for some reason i think that is wrong. I think they should be set to 32. Am I right about that?

As for loosening the timings, I haven't done it because the memory is supposed to run at 5-5-5-15. And for OC'ing the cpu I wanted to get the memory stable before I did that. I am in theory OC'ing the bus by 100mhz though, but i droped the cpu multiplyer down to 10. So 10x300fsb=3ghz, which is my stock cpu speed.

And to Tradesman and the other mod. Please dont think I dont appreaciate all the help and ideas you guys have been giving me because I realy do !!! I'm sure you can understand my frustration
