  • Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P + G.Skill DDR2 1066

Ok, I recently Bought this RAM From NewEgg.com:
[I bought 2 of them, for a total of 4x2gb=8gb]

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166

I have the Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P Motherboard:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128387

    I also have a AMD Phenom II 945 3.0Ghz:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103675

And I'm Running Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

I have tried testing the memory individually, and I found that 1 was faulty at the rated speeds and timings. When I tired to test the other 3 at the rating times all together, they would fail, BSOD for a second, then restart, and if windows did load, I would get program errors, programs failed to start, and the it would restart.

When Tested individually, 3 of them ran fine at 1066, 5-5-5-15, 2.0v, 1.4NB
    1 did not.
    But when tested all together
    [the 3 that worked]
    They failed.
    I even tried 5-7-7-20, 2.1v
    and 2.0v, and 1.9v
    195ns, and the 300ns setting
[I forget exactly what the timing is]
    And all combinations there of.

Here are some pictures of my settings.

    Please help!

Might try using two of the good ones in slots 1,2, stock timings and voltage, change command timing to 2T,boot and let run awhile. If okay, then add the third, same timings, set command timing to 2T instead of 1T, voltage to 2.1. If that is okay after boot, then try adding the 4th stick, may have to raise NB and CPU voltage a hair....but sort of sounds like #4 is bad and you may have to RMA.

Make sure to read the sticky: http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=1129

HT Voltage 1.4V, sounds like it may be a combination of issues. The one defective stick and your HT. Keep us posted on teh progress.

      Thank you

        4gb worked.. or not

        would not work @ 5-5-5-15, 2.0v

        But 2x2gb in slots 1&3 @ 1066mhz, 5-7-7-20 Works
        2.1v DDR2 Voltage
        1.4v Northbridge
        1t/2t Command Timing @ 2T
        TwTr Command Delay @ 4T
        Trfc 0 for Dimm 1
        and
        Trfc 1 for Dimm 3 Set @ 195ns
        Write Recovery Time @ 8T
        Precharge Time @ 8T
        Row Cycle Time @ 33T
RAS to RAS Delay @ 5T

        Going to try...

        Right at the '...'
My computer restarted, so it doesn't work after all!
[Luckily, my Browser saved my typing]

        OK, this is getting annoying.
Why would you rate this memory @ 1066 when it doesn't do this
        right out of the box?

Sure some people can get it to run at 1066 but when I buy memory,
I don't want to have to fiddle with it.

Do you sell any DDR2 1066 that doesn't need to be Fiddle with? Or adjusted to run at the rated speeds?

I bought 800Mhz memory [2x2gb] and it ran just fine.
        800mhz 5-5-5-15
        I was very pleased.

        But this is really annoying.

If you have DDR2 1066mhz that works right out of the box with my Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P I'd love to exchange this memory for it, if it cost more, I'll pay for the difference.

I love G.Skill and don't want to buy from another.
        Please help me out here.

Ok, just look up the Memory Support List from Gigabyte

          It says:

Note: Due to AMD AM3/AM2+ CPU limitation, memory module DDR2 1066 or above speed is only supported by 1 dimm per channel.

Well that solves that problem. I need a different motherboard with DDR3.

HT Voltage needs to be at 1.4V.

That is, if by HT Voltage, you mean Northbridge Voltage

Ok, I ONLY Set the DDR2 Voltage to 2.1 [+0.3]
and the Northbridge to 1.4 [+0.3]

And left the rest on AUTO

                  And it works!

That is, without the Defective Stick.
                  How do I RMA?
Do I need to do that through Newegg [Where I bought it]
                  or G.Skill?
                  Since it's only 1 stick?

                    Never Mind...
                    ERRORS!

I guess I'm just stuck at 800Mhz. Not too big a deal.

I too, have the same problem with getting this to run at 1066Mhz with 8GB of ram on the same mobo. So it's not just you who's stuck running 8GB of ram at 800Mhz. ;-)

Like I said, it is an AMD processor issue. They have issues operating up to 1066 with the 8GB.

Valentinez, what do you mean we don't care? (Customer Service Poll) I responded the same day to your post. Not nice.

                        Thank you
