  • F2-6400CL5D-8GBPQ on Asus P5Q Pro Turbo

    Hello!

I did look thru the threads, and havent found the answer yet. So I apologize if this has already ben answered.

I am a first time buyer, and thought Id give GSkill a try, since you actually have 8G RAM available on two sticks DDR2, so I recently purchased the F2-6400CL5D-8GBPQ (I moved from Corsair :] ), to increase my ram to 8g, and these seem great as it still keeps me from using the full four slots. So thank you for allowing me the chance to keep some more life in my gaming RIG.

    MB: Asus P5Q Pro Turbo
    Proc: Intel Duo 8500E
    RAM: F2-6400CL5D-8GBPQ
GPU: Zotac GTX 660 TI 2G Mem

    Questions are:

    1. Will this still run as efficiently as running two sticks (2x2) for 4g total, since it is better than running all four DIMM slots? Did I make the right choice, sicne I wanted 8G Ram at 1:1?

    2. What are the best settings and voltage to run these RAM at 1:1? It says 1.8 - 1.9 on voltage so. I am not overclocking my board so. Running at stock. (I tend to not like to overclock, I take what I pay for, and I am content with it)

    3. Im a gamer (especially online), so are there any other changes you recommend in the Bios to obtain maximum performance?

Thank you so much in advance taking the time to read this post and for your answers!

I'd make sure you have the latest BIOS, and might want to start at 1.9 (can always lower it once fully stable to a point where you maintain stability. Also initially may want to raise the NB Voltage about + .06 to compensate for the higher density sticks....and just me, but you have a great CPU, might want to consider OCing, those OC great and generally with little effort, you'd be surprised at the overall speed increase you'll see

Thank you very much for your fast response.

It seems to be runnin gstble at stock, however, when I came back from work, windows had a message stating it shut down unexpectedly. Is this because perhaps the NB voltage does need to be raised then? It gave that mesage when I was running the RAM at 1.9. I lowered it to 1.8 after I saw that.

Also, on overclocking, I was always afraid of the CPU life span being shortened, but are you saying this can be overclocked, maybe slihgtly, and will not affect the life span of the CPU or temperture to much? I have the stock cooling fan so.

These CPUs OC well and it shouldn't affect them, unless really, really drastic, I've got a few Q6600, E84,85,8600 out there that have been running between 3.6 and 4.0 GHz for years.

Well, I just got the Memory Dump blue screen again.

It says Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

I get a small window with the details similar to the following: (this is my second details, i failed to capture the third one, which was todays unexpected shutdown):

          Problem signature:
          Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
          OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
          Locale ID: 1033

          Additional information about the problem:
          BCCode: 1a
          BCP1: 0000000000041284
          BCP2: 0000000007E76001
          BCP3: 0000000000008948
          BCP4: FFFFF70001080000
          OS Version: 6_1_7601
          Service Pack: 1_0
          Product: 768_1

          My settings:

          1st info : 5-5-5-15-3-78-6-3
          2nd info: 8-3-5-4-6-4-7
          3rd info: 14-5-1-6-6

All set to AUTO except the following:

          DRam Frequency = DDR2-800
          AI Clock Twister = Strong

          Dram Voltage = 1.9
          NB Voltage = 1.16

          CPU Spread Spectrum = Disabled
          PCIE Spread Spectrum = Disabled

          CPU Margin Enhancement = Optimized

I was not getting these before i changed rams to the Gskill. Is it because its trying to run 8 gb of memory? Do I need to make any further tweaking for this motherboard, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo? I have everything runing at stock, except I followed ur suggestions, it is at 1.9 and NB I raised it by .06. Please help, as I would very much prefer to keep 8g for gaming performace, and not change back to 4g. I use my comp primarily for gaming.

          Thank you.

Did you raise the NB voltage as suggested, if not do that and set the DRAM voltage to 1.9

Okay, I will. Will setting the NB voltage higher increase temperature by much?

Incidentally, I do have DRam Frequency = DDR2-800, which is set to be forced to stay at DDR 800.

Would it be better to leave this on Auto? Would that make a difference? I noticed thru CPUZ that on uto it fluctuates between 399 and 400 when it is set to Auto.

Would forcing it to stay at 400 cause any problems? Would on Auto be more flexible?

Can go either way with the auto or not, may be fluctuating between 399 and 400 due to load or voltage, the increase to the NB which handles the MC (Memory Controller) should smooth it out and temp increase should be minimal

Ok thanks. Ill try the new suggestion, ill post if I get any more blue screens, and if not, after a time, maybe a week, ill post if it has stayed stable.

Well, I thought it was all going well, since it has been for a while, but unfortunately it happened again just before this post:

                          Problem Event Name: BlueScreen

Should increase the voltage some more and by how much? If not, what else should I do?

                          Thanks!

Just take it up in small increments .02 or so

                              Okay.

After my last post, I have tried to do everything and increased it by .2. am not sure how high is too high on the voltage, or what the max i should go, but my computer still keeps giving me the blue screens, stating its the memory. My programs, games etc also sometimes just stop woking and close.

What is the highest volatage i should go?

I had a pair of Corsairs in here before these, of course they were 4G total, but I had no problems at all with those, so I know its not my system.

Acording to your website, these Gskill Ram should be compatible with my motherboard.

                              Need assistance
