Sniper F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 - my OC findings

I bought a 2x4GB kit of Sniper F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2.
Price was 63€, currently it is 59€, abroad maybe 5€ cheaper, not worth the hassle.

It's specs are 1600 MHz 9-9-9-24 at a mere 1.25 V.

I thought, low voltage must mean good overclocking, and these had the lowest voltage of them all.
And indeed, they overclock very nice, which you will later see.

When they first came out in 2011, it wasn't a great kit for overclocking, but I guess they changed the chips the following years.

And, finally, what my kit can do. Everything was tested with Prime95 Blend for 10-14 hours.
My mainboard is ASUS P8P67 PRO B3 with 1502 BIOS.

Voltage is the lowest I could get with given tCL, tRCD and tRP. I went by 0,0125 V steps, mainboard also supports half of that.
tRAS wasn't lowered to its minimum, I just looked at what other G.Skill kits have.
I did try lowering it at 1600 MHz 7-8-8 1.5 V, and got to 14, Prime stable. But then I read that it is best to keep it tRAS = CL + tRCD+tRP (+/-1).

Command Rate was kept at 1T all the time, I tried 2T, but it didn't give me more overclocking headroom.

So all in all, you can get better kits, my F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 sits somewhere in the middle, not bad at all, but certainly not the best out there.

That is because of the memory controller / Sandy Bridge CPU. The ICs used on that kit should easily do DDR3-2400 on Ivy Bridge or Haswell.
