I have an X79 based system with a 3960X running on an Asus Rampage IV Extreme. I am using Gskill RipjawsZ F3-17000CL9Q2-32GBZH (4Gx8) and the CPU, VGA and Mobo are all water cooled.
There is ample airflow in the case, however, due to the tubing I cannot use active fan cooling of either of the DIMM banks. With 8 sticks inserted, all DIMMs are full and under heavy load they get quite warm.
To cut down the heat, I tried lower voltages and found that I could maintain 9-11-11-31 C2 at 2133mhz @ 1.6v, versus the 1.65v spec. However, even so, I placed a thermal probe into the heatsink of one of the middle DIMMs and noted a reading of 52c under heavy load after about an hour. Is this temperature acceptable? The system is completely stable but I do not want to see this RAM degrade over time.
