  • TridentX F3-2400C9D-8GTXD & Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH OC/Prime95 RS Issues

    Hi everybody, first time here (even if I'm at my forth G.Skill ram kit)

    I recently upgraded my pc from a X58 platform (good old years, with the Perfect Storm 2000 @Elpida Hyper) to a Z77 and i7 3770K with the following spesc:

    CPU = Intel Core i7-3770K @4.6Ghz (1.224-1.236v)
    MB = Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH (F12a with latest mod)
    GPU= Gigabyte Amd 7950OC WF3
    RAM = G.Skill F32400C9D-8GTXD PC3-19200 (4GBx2)
    PSU = Cooler Master Silent Pro M 850W
    PRIMARY HD = Ocz Vector

    After some weeks with a (borrowed) kit of Tactical Tracer 1866 I finally upgraded to the ram kit as above (Tridentx), it's been quite a month, and I descover recently that just I can't get 100% stable with more than 30' of the latest prime95 (v.2.79)
    All at default Xmp profiles, i.e. 2400Mhz cl 9-11-11-31-2T (1T) and 1.62-1.65v
    I thought I was stable with 20 runs of Linx but this prime 95 it's a different story

    Tried lots of things (including the vtt and imc volt increases) and bios versions, here's an example:

    http://www.overclock.net/t/1285652/o...#post_20071212

    But maybe they doesn't matter anymore except for the last days tests
    As suggested I did test my ram at default cpu speed with the Xmp Profile 1 and 1.65v manually (the Xmp sets a higher, 1.680v) and it was finally ok, managed to get stable, no errors whatsoever for more than 2h:

    Returning to my OC profile at 4.6Ghz, fixed vcore (or offset), no energy savings except for the Intel Speedstep eist, I'm gonna get instant errors on workers at default vtt/imc voltages
    Increasing them too much will end up in worker errors as well
    It seems quite stable at about this values, 1.10v (vtt) and 1.05v (Imc) but the prime95 program will crash after about half an hour with the Xmp's Profile1:

    Subtimings:

    And after 20' or so with the Profile2:

    Subtimings:

    Here are my other settings & volt:

    Pwm phase control = eXm Perf
    Vcore LLC = Turbo
    Vcore response = Fast
    Vcore = 1.245
    Vtt = 1.100
    Cpu Pll = Auto (1.8v)
    Imc = 1.050
    Dram voltage = 1.650

    Any help will be appreciated, thanks

      Have you tried raising IMC a little bit? Sounds like a slight voltage problem. Check the IMC Voltage in XMP profile, make sure it is set to that.

      Thank you

        I can only see the Vtt voltage on the Xmp profile, not the Imc and it's pretty high, 1.20v
        As I said before, I was stable with no cpu oc at defaults, 1.05 for the vtt and 0.925 for the Imc

          So you tested your cpu overclock with a lower memory clock (e.g. DDR3-1866)?

          It is possible that you need to slightly increase the cpu voltage a bit @ 4.6Ghz, when using DDR3-2400 and faster memory. Happened to me before. You might just give it a shot...

            Yes, I tried with the Tactical Tracers 1866 and needed only 1.212v to get stable
            Now I already increased to 1.236-1.224 (in full stress) but maybe I'll try some more if necessary
            I also increased back the cpu pll from 1.55v (before) to the 1.80v (default auto)

              Could try the PLL about 1.7 - 1.75, the VCCSA is the System Agent Voltage and should prob be fine at .0925 with only 8GB, VTT is the MC or IMC voltage, think about 1.15 should suffice but could go ahead and try 1.2 (it's safe), DRAM voltage 1.65 or 1.66 - see if that works

                    Ok, so I set the Xmp Profile2, the cpu pll 1.7, imc (vccsa) at 0.925 (auto), the vtt at 1.15 and DRAM voltage 1.65v
                    It last a bit more, ~ 40' and then it crashed

                    Gonna try with 1.20v vtt?

                    Already tried, it gives me an error on the worker #3:

                    I'm going to retest with 1.15v vtt and 1.66v of dram

                      Nope, it refuses to pass half an hour:

                      Profile2, Vtt at 1.15v, and dram at 1.66v
                      Also increased the cpu pll to 1.75v

                      Last try with the vtt at 1.20 (or maybe higher?) and dram 1.66v

                        Might try as is and take VCCSA to 1.14 or so

                          It's not working
                          Profile 1, vtt 1.20, dram 1.66, vccsa 1.14, same crash:

                          This latest version of the Prime95 is a pain in the ***, I got stable for more than an hour with an older version and with 1.15 vtt, 1.1 vccsa, 1.62 dram and even cr1
                          I simply don't understand anymore

                          I forgot one thing, I removed from the begining the top fin of both ram sticks in order to have the cooler clearance (D14), maybe they get hot?
                          There is a good ventilation with lots of fans however

                            Should have any real negative effect, might need just a tad more voltage, maybe VCCSA up a tad, say 1.14

                              However i doubt its a temperature problem. My F3-2400C9D-8GTXD barely get warm to the touch, even when overclocked beyond DDR3-2666.

                              Will your rig complete this exact prime test @ 4.4Ghz and 4.5Ghz with XMP#1 and/or #2 enabled?
