  • New Firmware for old Indilinx SSDs?

OCZ (the new owner of Indilinx) announced that they release an improved firmware for SSDs with Indilinx controllers.

Will GSKILL also release such firmware update for their Falcon(II) SSDs?

    Cheers,
    mibo

at least the 2142 firmware is urgently needed

Super Talent wrote to their forum users:
"Some of you already know that we released new firmware 2142.
The reason why we released the new firmware is becuase we found very critial algorithem bugs at the FLUSHing system.
The old firmware does the Flushing so frequently and un-necessarily.
Becuase of that, SSD is worn out very quickly like 6 months or within 1 year.
Of course, it depends up on the usage pattern.
When you use the internet and watch video down streaming files, it will quickly wear out the SSD and life span is dramatically reduced."

Remark: The 2142 is not the performance enhancing Indilinx firmware, but an earlier one.

      hi mibo,

I have already confirmed with Indilinx.

This new firmware doesn't support our Falcon series controller.
The latest version for our Falcon controller still is 2030.

      Thank you.

Thank you for the quick reply.

But, I'm a bit worried about flash wearout. Super Talent told their customers that firmware 2030 has a bug that accelerates flash wearout.
Is the GSkill Falcon 2030 firmware not affected by this bug?

as we all know you can flash the firmware in the falcon II drives to the OCZ vertex firmware, this will make it show up as an OCZ drive, then you could flash the firmware OCZ are gona hand out to update the drive

Does this work for my 128GB Falcon (not II), too?

                Thanks.
I still have to wait a bit, as OCZ has not yet released that 2142 firmware. They will call it 1.7

Why? The drives have the same controller!

The Falon I use a Barfoot Controller, the Supertalet GX use a Barfoot Controller.
The Falcon II use a Barefoot ECO - the Supertalent GX2 use a Barfoot ECO.
