How are Mac users suppose to update firmware?

Hi. I am trying to figure out how to update the firmware on my Phoenix Pro 60Gb.
Tired to do it over Bootcamp (won't work because of multiple partition), didn't work over Target Disk Mode with other Mac running on Bootcamp.
So the only thing left that I can do is remove the SSD drive from my Mac Mini and install it over USB on a Windows computer?

actually if this SSD had OSX partition or others OS partition, its upgrade tool will not recognize this SSD.
you have to format all of non Windows OS.
it is quite inconvenient.
