backing up and preparing for install of phx pro & clean 7. can i load and unzip the latest fw to a thumbby? then install after 7? is this a preferred method?

1. Backup data.
2. Update Firmware or not is OK(Proven performance of the new firmware even slower than the old firmware. New firmware is the most important amendments to the health of SMART error message.)
3. Use "Parted Magic" secure erase your SSD and step by step.
4. Confirm the motherboard Bios Storage as "AHCI".
5. Install new OS.

Hello everyone.

I have a last bit of homework here to insure the upmost success on correct installation.
The SSD is new and unused. Everything intitally installed will be done cleanly from disc.
Please review my proceedure list, and comment on it's acuracy.
As you can see I also have a few questions I could use some help with.


Data back up is completed.
1) Set motherboard to AHCI.
2) Update fw ?
A) What happens if I don't update to 3.1 ?
B) If I update FW, do I need to use the update tool located here ? :

C) If I update FW can I use a thumb drive to do it? (Y or N)
3) Parted Magic/secure erase not needed ? (new drive)
4) Install 7.
6) Tweak 7 and move items to HDD as wanted/needed.
7) Install programs to C:/SSD and also tweak the storage on those programs as needed.
