  • What the heck is going on! P.P. 120GB

Ok, I've had this drive for about a month now, this is the 2nd time the write speed has significantly decreased. The first time I had to hunt down a program to actually secure erase and reset the drive. I'm considering doing it a second time because once again, the speeds have dropped off considerably.

GSKILL, is this normal for SSD's? Might this be a firmware issue? I'm using v3.1. Is this the drive settling down? Might it be an issue with the CrystalDiskMark software? I'm only using 3x 50MB passes, so it can't be too hard on the drive.

I've tested several secure erase methods.
Parted Magic is the only effective.
What your speed in CrystalDiskMark ?

      Hi Kwilks3

      could you post your benchmark?
I know FW_3.1 made lots of users unhappy.
we will released new FW soon.

@Wales - Thanks, but I know all about Parted Magic. I had to hunt that program down in the first place. And I just did that less than 2 weeks ago.

@GSKILL - Here is my benchmark

        Fresh install

Thanks, but I've known about those tweaks for a long time now. Long before they were posted on here. And I have done most of them. One of the tweaks disabled the Intel Turbo Boost on my system, so I had to revert back.

              Hi all,

I have to say this is not issue.
I have already noticed Sandforce this problem in that time we started selling.
but they don't recommend testing Sandforce controller with crystaldiskmark or HDTune.
because ATTO and IOMeter will not drop such serious.
I know it is ridiculous but I think just this controller is better on " QD=32" condition.
Actually I don't want to recommend customers erase SSD any more.
I hope Sandforce can improve their FW technique and solve this problem in future.

You are right, it is ridiculous for such a drop to occur. This should not happen. That's about a 40% drop in sequential write speed. My 500GB 7200 RPM Seagate Momentus hard drive has the same write speed as it stands right now, which to me is un-acceptable. I feel I'm not getting what I paid for.

I would like to secure erase again, but I will wait for an updated firmware before I do. I know a secure erase would temporarily fix the issue, but like before, I know the speed will drop off steep again, so it seems pointless.

I know you guys are pushing for an update, is there an ETA?
