  • Phoenix Pro 120gb not recognized by Asus G73 laptop bios

I am having trouble getting my new Phoenix pro recognized by my laptop (Asus G73jh). It initially detected it and i installed windows. But after a few reboots the bios will not detect the drive at all. I've reset from Achi to IDE and back but still no luck. Also the drive does not show up when inistalled in my external USB drive case. I've tried both of the laptops two drive bays and no luck (with and without the 2nd drive installed).

    Any ideas?

Same problem here. Asus G73JH and installed a Phoenix Pro Series FM-25S2S-120GBP2 yesterday. Bios recognized it and then I set it up in Win7. After several reboots bios doesn't see it now in either bay and either IDE or ACHI mode. Will try it in my desktop today before I RMA unless someone has another idea.

Hopefully we can work this out. I RMAd my drive, but I'm worried it isn't compatible with our laptops (which would bite since we cant return them). Either A) G.Skill released a batch of bad drives (unlikely) or B) the drive won't work with our laptop. Hopefully the problem is "A" but the odds of both of us getting bad drives is very small (unless all the drives in the batch were bad). Sounds like we both tried the exact same solutions. I will update you here when I get my drive back (Monday). You can also find me on forum.notebookreview.com under ValkerieFire. Hopefully together and with some help from Gskill we can get the drives to work. Please update me if you have any success. There is hope though at least one person on notebookreview has a working one on a g73.

Installed the gskill pro in my desktop and it's fine. Bios and win7 sees it fine. I'll keep it in my desktop if I have to but I'm going to keep trying to get it to work with the G73.

gskill now works fine in my G73JH. After testing in my desktop I tried it again in the G73. Reset CMOS before installed it. Imaged and recovered C: and using SSD as I type this. Less than an hour start to finish.

Great news. I hope mine works also. I never reset the bios before I rma'd it so I'll never know if that was the problem or if the drive was bad. I'll try out the new one first without reseting to try and isolate the problem. If it doesn't work but then does after a reset we'll know for sure. Thanks for posting and I am glad it works for you. Let me know if anything comes up.

So I got my RMA'd drive back. I was curious to see if my Bios detected this drive without needing to be reset or anything. Sure enough they did. I don't know if that means the original drive was defective or not. Fortunately this one is working well and using as I type this. Ironically GSkill released a new firmware on Sunday evening. I upgraded to that before installing windows and have not had any issues at all with this drive. It benchmarks about 50mbps faster than my 30gb OCZ Vertex (1).

If anyone does get this drive and your bios don't detect it, try reseting the bios, if that doesn't work, try updating to the 3.1 firmware. You'll have to install it in a working computer with a free sata port to do so.
