  • How to determine drive firmware version

I am having a new G.Skill Falcon II 128GB drive shipped to me today (the second one I'll have received from an RMA). The second one got sent back because attempting to upgrade the firmware killed it, so I'd like to know how to determine what firmware the replacement drive has before even contemplating another attempt at a firmware upgrade myself. The company shipping me the drive doesn't know.

Also, is there a STEP BY STEP instruction guide for upgrading the firmware? My previous attempts all resulted in failure no matter what OS I was using or which SATA plug I had the drive connected to.

    Thanks.

The reason I say "STEP BY STEP instructions" is because all I get by following these instructions is this error: "Upgrade Failed, please choose the right parameter for your SSD"

http://www.hdtune.com/ click info. Your SSD must already have the latest firmware

Thanks. The brand-new replacement has arrived and hdtune is showing 1916 for the firmware version, thank Christ, because that means I don't have to attempt an upgrade I know doesn't work.

Now all I need to do is figure out how to create aligned partitions in Linux. Windows 7 ain't getting anywhere near my system no more! :-)
