  • SSD Tweak Utility

a user on the OCZ forums has created a utility that gives you centralized access to all the popular SSD configuration points within Windows...the program only makes adjustments to Windows at the OS level, so it should work with any SSD brand or model...the SSD Tweak Utility recommends which settings to disable for optimal SSD performance, and if you're a little unsure there is an auto-tweak feature that offers a brief walkthrough

the software is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7 (both 32 and 64-bit)...

I have used it and I recon its pretty good. Not perfect though - you still need to do a few things manually.

    Thanks

Windows defrag and system restore takes you to a part of windows to do it manually. In mine for the defrag bit it didn't even work - probably because in Windows 7 for SSD's its disabled anyway. The system restore place it takes you for me at least was useless - I couldn't figure out what was required. Also it does not disable the hibernation function which also chews up a lot of what is, for many people anyway, useless space. For those extra things I used the guide here:
        http://www.techieblogger.com/2009/10...s-7-vista.html

        I also run CCleaner regularly:
        http://www.ccleaner.com/

But even that is not perfect it still leaves rubbish around that grows over time. To pick part of that up I use a program from Asampoo - Windows Optimizer
        http://www2.ashampoo.com/webcache/ht...2106___AUD.htm

The most annoying thing however is even those two programs don't pick up all the rubbish. I do a large file search every now and then and you can see all sorts of rubbish that can be done away with manually. I also look in the user folder, particularity apps data, every now and then. Just the other day I found 1/2 Gig of rubbish. Mostly its associated with the macromedia flash player.

        Thanks
        Bill
