  • New to SSD and G.Skill....

Hi this is my first post here and my first G.Skill product. Basically iv just got a 64Gb falcon SSD that i want to install my OS on. Im going to be using Win7 64 Build 7600 RTM but before I install I want to make sure iv done all thats needed to get this all set up right.

I see there is a firmware update but do i need to do this? Not sure if i need the wiper if im on win7? Anything else i need to do?

Sorry for the questions but i want to get it right first time and not have to worry about it

    Thanks for your time.

    Brad.

I use PC Wizard 2009 which can be downloaded on http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php it has a bunch of hardware detecting tools on it and will tell your firmware version as well as serial numbers. Even if you don't have the latest firmware it will still run fine, my first falcon had the older firmware version on it and ran just fine.

Yeah you will be fine, what I also did on my desktop on was relocate my temp files and paging to my Raptor. Just to limit the small writing that was going on and help extend the life of the drive.

Ok thanks chap. Just opened it as its my birthday today and shocked on how small the box is that it comes in let alone the drive itself Cant wait to get it up and running. Am i right in thinking TRIM will be running with win7?

Well I have not tested Win 7 RC, but from what word on the street is it will have a built in trim command. But in the meantime you can still run it with a manual trim command tool from G.Skill, also very nice rig you have there!

Well up and running and very happy as this is only a 64Gb drive.
