  • DDR5 How much memory I can use without compromising the performance?

10 Years ago I bought G.SKILL 64GB Ripjaws 4 DDR4 2133MHz PC4-17000 CL15 Octuple Channel kit (8X 8GB). And happily used my 64gb PC for all this years. This year it's time for upgrade. But how much memory can I use without compromising the performance? Hope it's more than 64gb.

I bought 9800x3d as a CPU for my new machine (I really want to run VR). The fastest kits with AMD EXPO to date are: 6000CL26. But from I read I hardly can expect to buy 2 of the 2x32GB and run them at full speed. Some say that I need to take Single-rank modules, so controller in the CPU have a chance to run them. Moreover even with single-rank modules, configuration play and some luck will be required.

    The questions are:
    - Are 2x24GB 6000CL26 single rank?
    - Can you give me some advice over how can I get 96gb or 128gb to run at full speed (6000CL26)?

Both 256GB and other quad kits, some built from new higher density ICs, have already been announced for AM5 ahead of Computex. Instead of gambling on mixing kits, hoping it goes well, I would recommend to wait for these. Also don't forget to check motherboard compatibility before you buy any of them. There will probably be differences with how well some motherboards handle memory frequency with four modules installed.
