  • EXPO Not working

    I am using 2 kits of F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR

4x16gb sticks supposed to run at 6000 but when enabling EXPO my system does not even post and won't boot so I am stuck at 3600

This memory is on the QVL list for my motherboard so I don't see why it won't work with EXPO

Any help would be appreciated, please see system specs below

    Gigabyte Aorus Master X870E
    AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

    Thanks

Officially the EXPO is only supported with one kit and two modules installed in the primary slots. With four modules it depends upon the CPU (it's memory controller) and the motherboard, what frequency is still usable. DDR5-3600 is the AMD specification, that the motherboard defaults to after the POST failed with four modules and the EXPO enabled.

Try decreasing the DRAM frequency step by step, leaving the EXPO enabled in the UEFI. Often DDR5-5600/4800 can work, without any or only with a couple of quick adjustments. If you don't want to compromise on DRAM frequency, replacing the 4x16GB with a single compatible 2x32GB kit is the way to go.

How do you decrease the frequency what option would it be in the UEFI?

I don't own that motherboard myself, but for Gigabyte it usually is:

Advanced Mode > Tweaker > System Memory Multiplier

I will give this a try and let you know,

Should I decrease to 5600 first and then keep dropping until I can boot?

Yes, go down step by step until the system successfully starts and boots into Windows. If you want to lower the risk of damaging your OS installation, you can instead first do a quick basic stability test with a MemTest86 USB flash drive.

              Can you damage your OS?

              never come across this

In general consecutive crashes or using a system with unstable settings can (eventually) damage system files / the registry. Windows has mechanisms to self repair, but they have their limits. When backups are available, it is not a big deal, otherwise a reinstall might be required.
