  • ram speeds docp same as stock

ram is rated at 3600. i am stuck at 2733 mhz. it is on Qvl list. my bios is updated (latest) i reset CMOS. it's in slots a2/b2. oddly enough, same results when i enable docp.

    ryzen 5 3600

    asus b550f gaming

    g skill trident Z neo: F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC

i do not want to overclock the thing. like change cpu settings etc.... i did change dram to 1.395v and still cannot get passed 2733.

    any other ideas?

Try one module at a time in A2 slot to see if each can be stable with DOCP. Load BIOS defaults, enable DOCP, then see if each can be stable. If not, test for the highest DRAM Frequency to see if both have the same result or different capabilities.

it was like this when I had a set of Corsair vengeance ram . Didn’t go pass 2733 mhz . But those were not on qvl … so I’m confused . My chip is new and my mB is new … I mean … if I’m stuck at 2733, so be it … but that sucks .

Being stuck at DDR4-2733 with two different higher rated kits, a Zen2 CPU and B550 motherboard sounds very weird. That should only ever happen, if the modules were accidentally installed in the wrong memory slots (A1/B1).

So I would second G.SKILL Techs recommendation, to test both modules and also both primary DIMM slots (and therewith memory channels) individually. If it is just an issue with either slot / channel, that would hint at the CPU or motherboard.

A bad or over-tightly mounted CPU cooler can also impact the max memory frequency and even the initialization of specific slots. That is kinda rare, though.

happens on a1/b1 also... i will try to single them out when i get home in each / all of them.

so... what happens if this "fixes" the issue? am i stuck using only 1 stick of ram ?

DRAM Voltage should not need to be that high. If you suspect an issue with DRAM, feel free to send them in for warranty exchange to see if another kit can work better. Submit the G.Skill RMA request form online to get started:

If both matched modules only work individually, it usually is not a memory but more of a CPU or MB issue. It is difficult to verify without replacement components. However if the memory replacement from an RMA acts exactly the same, that would basically confirm it.

It is rare, but some motherboards apparently have an easier time to train the XMP settings with just one module (in A2). So you only add the 2nd module (in B2) afterwards. Personally I never ran into this issue, but I've seen others mention it. A BIOS downgrade might resolve that, potentially.

i have used the oldest / newest bios for my MB .... still no success. i had another RAM set do the same thing, that is why i purchased these. it isn't a ram issue, i need do adjust my MB settings somehow, but i have no idea what to do. i do not want to start "overclocking" i only use the computer for work. i don't want to change any settings cpu related.
