  • P8H67-M EVO w/ F3-12800CL8-4GBXM random freezing

Model of the motherboard: P8H67-M EVO (rev B3), BIOS version 1850 (latest as of 9/21/2011)
Model of the memory: F3-12800CL8-4GBXM ( have 2 installed: 1 in slot 2 and another in slot 4 for a total of 8GBytes memory)
Model of the CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K

I do not have overclocking enabled

Issue: Random freezing. this has happened since the day I build the PC and installed windows. the freezing tends to happen more when playing games but i have swapped video cards and it still occurs.

The doubt I have is that I bought all components at newegg and they had recommended this memory but I do not see it listed on ASUS' qualified vendor list.
So I just need to know if g.skill or the community has tested it on this board? if it does do I need to modify the timings or anything else?

    carv,

Enable XMP and test one module at a time. The memory should work with just the XMP enabled.

    Thank you

OK I tried to enable to XMP but under EFI Bios Utility advanced mode>AI Tweaker>AI Overclock tuner there is no XMP option. I only have "auto" (which is where it was) and "Manual" options.
I read on another forums on ASUS site that XMP is not offered on boards with integrated video cards. Even though i am not using the integrated video card i still do not have the options.

So i believe I have to set this up manually but am not sure what values i must enable or adjust. Can you please make the recommendations?
The manual can be found here but you have to go through the Asus site. (sorry i have not figured out another way to get it.)

ok I tried those but the system would not boot. I would get no video and eventually just had to power cycle and the BIOS would give me a message was not able to over clock and it woudl take me back to the EFI screen.

The only way I could get it to boot would be to to set AI overclock to auto or manual with ddr3 to 1330 or 1066 but it would not work as 1600. I did not mess with the timings at that point since I had no idea if I should even leave it at ddr3 1066 which is where I have it now with timings to auto. please let me know if this is a good setting to try or if I should change it to something else. Ill test it out in the meantime.

          Edit:
Well last night it froze up on me again at 1066 setting so i have just set it to run at 1333MHz 8-8-8-24 with voltage at 1.5 and everything else set to auto. Ill see if that helps.

          Edit:
It did not help. after booting up at 1333 8-8-8-24 it froze after 15 minutes.

So I am now awaiting your recommendations as i think I am making it worse.

Sounds it may just be a problem with the kit. This memory should work with just the XMP Profile. Try one module at a time to see if one performs better, that would give you a definitive answer.

Sorry I have been out of the country and just got back so am trying your suggestions now.

There is no XMP profile due to the integrated video on the mainboard (see previous post) I have manually added the changes you recommended and am using only one stick set to
              DDR3-1600
              8-8-8-24
              1.50V

              BUT....

The system will not even boot.
When I go to the EFI screen>advanced mode it says "ASUS h67 Series motherboard supports 1066/1333 MHz DRAM only"

So I set it to 1066 with only one stick of ram
and under DRAM Timing control I set:
              DRAM CAS# Latency 8
              DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay 8
              DRAM RAS PRE Time 8
              DRAM RAS# ACT Time 24
DRAM Command mode Auto (not sure if i should put a specific value here)

Everything else is set to auto (secondary timings and third timings).

I have run it for one day so far wihtout issue and i plan to run it for a few more days but this might have been the issue. Does this mean I should send in both sticks of ram for RMA? or are there other tests you need me to run first?

If it freezes again in the next day or two then ill post back here.
              Thanks!

                Try DDR3-1333 7-7-7-21 1.50V

This motherboard can not overclock to DDR3-1600, but the lower timings above should be even better.

                Thank you
