  • bios config for asus p6x58d-e with gskill 6GB (3x2) DDR3 1600 12800CL8TU-6GBPI

Issue: 6GB (3x2GB) RAM only posting as 4GB

Please note: New to W7, trip channel and tweaking ram in bios, so looking for very specific settings in Bios AI Tweaker. More interested in having all 3 channels running stable/recognized than O/C settings.

    System:
    Asus P6X58D-E mobo + i7 950 chip
    Gskill 6GB (3x2G) DDR3 1600 12800CL8TU-6GBPI (8-8-8-21), V= 1.6-1.65

Please be as detailed as possible for Noob!
    TIA!

With the latest BIOS, enable XMP and see how that works. Make sure QPI/DRAM Core Voltage is AUTO. Some motherboards set it to 1.40V (too high), when it should be AUTO.

    Thank you

x58 and imc rated speeds for mem

I think the issues with the x58 chipset properly seeing all memory and running it properly at xmp or any other settings are very iffy. That has certainly been my experience with 3 different sets of qvl ram(4/6/12) including gskill. All sets passed memtest. Ram not properly recognized on a consistent basis with the latest (or any) bios on the P6X58D-E is a way of life, but postings on other boards and ram are all over the internet. Almost all the I3/5/7 processors are rated to run ram at 800/1066 and there are no guarantees above that. So you would think that setting the gskill at 1066 with the rest auto would do it. But heck, even that results in 4 of 6 recognized about 60% of the time on boot or reboot. I don't think the x58 was Intel's finest hour. I also would suggest that 1.65 voltage for ram is very risky for processor, but it's your bucks. I did not rma the ram kits because I think it is the imc. BTW, running all six slots with any ddr3 on x58 boards is also very problematic. Great job, Intel!

Triple channel.. it's very sensitive with regards to memory, and as you can see in the sticky, many reasons can cause the problem. Hopefully the x68 will have less of these issues, but Intel should get credit for just having a triple channel platform for those that really need it. For many, life would be super slow without 24GB.

        Thank you
