Hi All,
My systems specs are as follows:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM3 3.4GHZ 8MB Cache 125W 45NM Retail Box
Mobo: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 DDR3 AMD 890GX ATX 2PCI-E16 PCI-E1 PCI-E4 2PCI VGA DVI Motherboard
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr OC 880MHZ 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Mini-HDMI DX11 PCI-E Video Card
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Memory
PSU: OCZ FATAL1TY Series 750W ATX 24PIN SLI Ready Modular Cables 135mm Red Fan 80+ Bronze Power Supply
Hardrive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA2 3.5IN 8.5MS 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive OEM
DvDrive: LG GH22NS50 Black 22X SATA DVD Writer OEM
Case: Coolermaster Haf 912 Black Mid Tower ATX Case
Cooling: Corsair Cooling Air Series A50 Performance CPU Cooler
First question is are my motherboard and ram even compatible? According to NCIX(the website I bought them from) they are:
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=57...ture=G%2ESkill
Or at least the M$A89GTD PRO version.
But according to you guys, and the ASUS website, they aren't:
http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=355
So my first question is, should I return the ram and try for something that actually is compatible according to G.SKILL?
Problem: The reason I ask this is because I've tried every combination of timings and voltages I've found on these forums for setups similar to mine, to no avail. After a few minutes, a few hours, sometimes even a few days, I will lose all audio and video output and the computer will freeze. I have to manually restart or shut down the computer, and upon boot up it says "Overclocking failed, press F1 to enter setup"
I've tried:
1333MHz 8-8-8-24 @1.5V and 1.55V
1333MHz 8-8-8-24-2T @1.5V and 1.55V
1333MHz 8-8-8-25* @1.5V and 1.55V
1600MHz 9-9-9-24 @1.5V and 1.55V
1600MHz 9-9-9-24-2T @1.5V and 1.55V
1600MHz 9-9-9-28* @1.5V and 1.55V
1067MHz 7-7-7-21 @1.5V
1067MHz 7-7-7-22* @1.5V
I've tried raising the CPU/NB voltage from 1.100V to 1.150V and 1.200V
Always the same problem occurs. Loss of audio/video output and the computer need s a hard reboot, followed by "Overclocking failed"
*The reason I tried 25,28, and 22 was because according to AMD Overdrive, those are the timings it states for the ram. Also, after the system fails, all timings are reset to 9-9-9-28, no matter the speed.
I've tried each ram stick separately in each slot on multiple different timings and voltages, always the same issue.
I'm running out of ideas here. I contacted ASUS and they told me to reset the CMOS and if the problem continued to RMA the board, but on their forums there are hundreds of other people with problems similar to mine, and they've said that the new board worked for a few days before the problem returned.
Any suggestions? RMA the ram and get more compatible ram? RMA both the RAM and board?
I'd be happy to answer any questions or try any solutions anyone might have.
Thank you, Askevin
EDIT: I have updated to the latest BIOS version.
