  • MSI 890FXA + Flares?

Hi I recently ordered a new system originally with some Corsair
Dominator GT's but would like to return them in favor of G Skill
Flares. I just wanted to make sure that F3-16000CL9D-8GBFL 2x4GB Ram
would be compatible with an MSI 890FXA-GD70 motherboard and a AMD
1090T processor. It wasn't listed under your compatible motherboards
so I just wanted to make sure it is a good purchase and compatible.

No...you won't be able to get the top speeds

Ok honestly yes they'll work. From my experience I've gotten my memory to at least boot and run @1800 with stock timings (WITH BIOS v1.6)...I have the F3-16000CL8D-8GBFLS 2x4GB with a 1090T.

I cannot find any way to get it to get the actual 2000 speed. It seemed like I was at least close to achieving some sort of progress with the v1.6 bios but after updating to v1.7 things have backtracked significantly. Even with the "Load Optimized" option and trying to input the actual timings from the memory-z window you may get stuck at the next boot.

Sorely a shame since the two SEEM like they should be a match made in heaven. Even with a lot of people mentioning that their 890FXA's burning out/too hot I have yet to have an issue.

Good luck finding any advice or other users with successful builds, I have yet to find one, and I still have yet to see G.SKILL actively try and post any good info for users such as: what the settings for the DRAM menu would be needed to achieve the best speed/actual speed, what FSB would be needed with what clock, or even the ratio.

Just giving you my experience so far with the trio of the AMD Phenom X6 1090T, MSI 890FXA-FD70, & the G.SKILL F3-16000CL8D-8GBFLS Flares.

I know how you feel there. I tried getting my 2x2GB flare sticks to run 7-9-7-24-1T @ 1800 as per spec and would only want to run at 1667Mhz at same timings. However, I've been really tired from work lately and haven't filled out an RMA for my sticks. I wish I could get a 2000 Mhz kit back from G.skill instead and I would of course pay the price difference! However with that aside, the Flare series memory isn't too popular versus the cheaper counterpart RIPJAWS. Compatibility-wise as the OP asked is fine. Getting the proper voltages for the RAM to work at spec? I wish you luck!

It takes overclocking experience to reach DDR3-2000. Did you raise CPU-NB Voltage? The CPU-NB is made for DDR3-1333, so obivously for anything above you will need to boost the voltage.

If you create your own post, then we can post something back to help you. Otherwise if you are purchasing performance/overclocking memory, you better know how to overclock. If you don't, then you are better off with DDR3-1333 CL9 (plug and play) memory, or be ready to learn and execute our suggestions.

All you should need to do is set memory frequency, timings, and voltage, then find the stable CPU-NB Voltage it needs.

          Thank you
