  • Compatibility with OCZ memory

    Hello
    Current setup:
    MSI785GM-E51 mobo, Phenom IIx4 955 (C3 revision), 4GB of OCZ Gold 12800 memory oc'ed to 1600.
    BIOS settings:
    CPU ratio: 16.5 = 3300
    FSB/DRAM 1:4 = 1600
    DRAM voltage 1.71
    Memory setting: 8-8-8-24, 2T
    Unganged mode: Enabled

I want to add 4gb of F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL to this.
Will it work with what I have, since the gskill has 9-9-9-24?

    Thank you

What is the specific model number of the OCZ ram you are currently running?

What are the manufacturer's timing and voltage specifications for the OCZ you're running?

Generally I don't recommend mixing RAM from different manufacturer's, and I never recommend mixing them if they don't have the exact same timing and voltage specifications.
    MSI Big Bang xPower x58
    Intel i7 950
    GSkill DDR3 2000 6x2Gb
    Gigabyte GTX 460 x2 SLi
OCZ Vertex 2 SSD - OS Drive
    WD Black 640Gb x2 RAID0 - Apps and Programs
WD Black 1Tb backup and storage
    Corsair TX950W
Water cooling - Swiftech and DangerDen

i imagine that mixing brands and timings is not a good idea, but I've read of people that have had it work.
      My existing RAM:
      OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G16004GK

They (OCZ) no longer sell this model, but I've been recommended to use this as an equivalent. OCZ3G1600LV4GK. It has 8-8-8-24 with 1.65

Not that I'm trying to drive away sales from G.Skill............... but I think your best bet is to go with the OCZs since you already have one set.

There's a better possibility that they have the same exact ICs than when mixing/matching different brands.
