  • ECO Series, problems with my AMD board..

    Memory: G.SKILL ECO Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600
    Motherboard: MSI 880GM-E43 AM3 AMD (model MS-7596)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz

    Problem:
I can’t get this memory to run as advertised (I can’t get the voltage down, timing is much higher and it will only run @ 1333, crashes @ 1600), and my CPU runs about 10 degrees C. hotter with this memory installed.

Any suggestion, and if I can’t get this memory to run as advertised, can I return it for something else?

What's the minimum voltage setting you have for DRAM Voltage?

    You can try this:

In your BIOS, go to Cell Menu, and from there, go down to FSB/DRAM ratio and change that to manual. Then adjust the DRAM frequency to 1600.

Now go to Advance DRAM configuration above and go in DRAM Timing Mode. You didn't mention which version of the ECO you have so I don't know your settings. Here, your manual does not show me the screen so I can only tell you to set CAS latency, RAS to CAS delay, RAS precharge and RAS Cycle Time to the specific values of your ECO model. Go back one menu, and set Memory Timing to 2T.

Go back to Cell Menu and go down even more and change the CPU/NB voltage to 1.2V, set DRAM Voltage to 1.5V.

Otherwise, you might want to try these kits:

This one is plug and play so you don't need to worry about settings:

This one is not plug and play so it requires a little tweaking like I showed above, but it does add some performance.

This is the ECO Series memory I have:
      http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=247

I can't get this memory to run @ 1600. I posted a link below with some screenshots of my bios. I hope this gives you a better idea of what I'm looking at, if I up the FSB/DRAM ratio from what you see on the screenshot, my PC bluescreens after post. If you need anymore info or pictures to help me, please let me know.

FSB: DRAM should be at 1:4

I see you still have CPU-NB voltage at AUTO, change that to 1.2V.

You can put back the NB Voltage to AUTO. We want CPU-NB.

Now go to Advance DRAM configuration and set DCT Timing to BOTH, CAS latency to 7, RAS to CAS delay to 8, RAS precharge to 7, RAS Cycle Time to 24 and set Memory Timing to 2T.

See if this works. Also, this thread might be help you. The guy used an MSI board too but different memory.

Thank you for your help. I finilly got everything running at advertised specs and stable! Just took a lot of tweaking

          DRAM/ratio: 1600

          Timing: 7-8-7-24

          Voltage: 1.35 @ 800mhz
