  • Need tech help!

So, after doing research for about a week,Idecided to place an order on newegg.
But then after everything went through, I noticed the Gskill ram i got was for a phenon II X6..so here is the setup i bought..

Item List: Item Number: Item Description: Quantity: Price:
    N82E16820231371 MEM 2Gx2|GSKILL F3-16000CL9D-4GBFLS 1 159.99
    N82E16819103808 CPU AMD|PH II X4 955 AM3 RT 1 154.99
    N82E16813131644 MB ASUS| CROSSHAIR IV FORMULA 890FX 1 229.99

Now i wonder..Is the computer even going to boot?

Yes, memory is standardized, so it will at least boot at DDR3-1333 CL9.

The next thing you need to do is go into the BIOS and make the proper setting changes. Start from DDR3-1600, then raise the CPU Host Frequency up and the CPU-NB Voltage up to reach DDR3-2000. As you already know, the 955 may not fully support DDR3-2000, so you may hit a road block at DDR3-1800 or so.

    Thank you

How much should I raise the frequence up to on host cpu?..I already got it to 3.4 havent changed any voltage cause i dont know how much Id need on north bridge..did cpu level up cause it was the easiest way to get cpu freq. up but by doing that the bios set my ram at 1400.

That's because your BIOS auto adjusted your memory multiplier based on what it thought was the next closest value to keep the memory at the speed setting programmed into the eprom.

In order to hit the rated speed of the memory you'll have to rely on manual adjustments in the BIOS and not the "easy" cpu up method.

One thing you can try is choose AI Overclock Tuner to D.O.C.P and choose Profile DDR3-1800. Then in DRAM timing configuration manually set

          DRAM CAS# = 9
          DRAM RAS to CAS# = 9
          DRAM RAS PRE# = 9
          DRAM RAS# = 24
          DRAM command rate = 2T

          Set DRAM Voltage to 1.65V
Set CPU & NB Voltage Mode to Manual and bump CPU/NB Voltage to 1.25V

Reboot and see what's your frequencies and how it goes.

Did do all that...Just booted back on windows..cpu is now downclocked 50 mhz to 3150 and ram is @ 1800...gona jump on Battlefield bad company2 and if I dont get a blue screen in about 15 min. it should be good..sux thou cause i thouth I would be able to set these flares at its rated speed just didnt know the PhenomII 955 dont like that. Was gonna get the 1090t X6 but decided not to cause the X8 bulldozer's are gonna be out in 6 months or so.

Bulldozer in 6 months? Unlikely. More like a year.

Bulldozer is set to come out on first quater 2011 there is on the amd.com blog chanel..and yeah those settings are kicking *** on Battlefield bc2...think i could get to 2000 mhz? the Nb temps got a lil high with that tweak..its up to 49 now

                  http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/dis...rocessors.html

Bulldozer is coming in the second half of next year

And yes you can try DDR3-2000, but you'll need to bump the CPU/NB voltage to 1.25V

NB temps are fine, mine goes up to 55C under gaming

The cpu/nb voltage were the same at 1800 (1.25v) so all I did was bump it up to ddr3 2000 but it failed..went back and set it to 1866 yet I have to play BBC2 to find out if this 1866 is gona be stable.

You can maybe look at this guy, Same CPU/motherboard as you but he uses the CL7 Flare kit and was able to stabilize at DDR3-1980.

                      http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...t=7-9-7&page=3 (see post 54)

You can figure out his BIOS settings from his CPU-Z screens. You might need even more voltage on the CPU/NB. Just a guess.

                      What BIOS are you using?

The RAM frequency seems to be in the norm of Deneb. You can now overclock your CPU and NB clocks if you'd like.

I have it bumped up to 1.25v whick helped me achieve ddr3 1800 stable..what do you think would be a good voltage for ddr3 2000? maybe 1.32? Im afraid of burning my Nb..overclocking is new to me so yeah im a noob

I'd say 1.3V is max for normal usage. But Denebs might not be able to reach 2000 even with sufficient voltage. Besides, the difference from 1800 to 2000 is minimal. You'll get far much more performance by overclocking your CPU and your NB.
