  • ECO RAM unable to run at correct voltages/timings

    System specs:

    Phenom II X4 955BE.
    MSI NF980-G65 motherboard
    4 gigs of G.Skill ECO RAM 1600mhz at 7-8-7-24 1.35v
    EVGA GTX460
    Silverstone 1000 watt PSU.

I think that pretty well covers it. Everything is set at stock/auto except for the RAM voltages, frequency, and timings.

Okay. Problem is that I cant' get the RAM to run at its advertised speed. When I try to manually set the timings/frequency, the motherboard fails to POST. I loosened the timings up to 8-8-8-24 and 1.35v, and memtest86+ threw out a MASSIVE amount of errors. By cranking the voltage up to 1.6v, I successfully passed memtest86. Anything lower than 1.6v and memtest fails.

I have also tried bumping up the HT voltage and NB voltage in an attempt to get the RAM voltage down, but nothing seems to work.

With EVERYTHING set to auto (including RAM control), the RAM runs at 1333mhz with 11-11-11-32 and 1.5v.

I'm beginning to think I may have gotten a lemon set.

I would suggest a different kit that is 1.50V+. The ECO series is 1.35V, so setting proper voltages can be tricky.

    Thank you
