  • intermitent issue F3-10666CL9T-12GBRL & P6X58D-E

    Hi
i just finished building a new system
    P6X58D-E (BIOS 0303),
    i7 980x,
    12GB (F3-10666CL9T-12GBRL) and
    windows 7 Pro 64bits.

systems runs OK but every now and then when I restart the system, i get 8Gb instead of 12Gb. I restart again et voila, 12Gb is back.

i am not into overclocking.. (at least not for now) just looking for a stable fast system. i ran all sort of memory tests and everything comes back clear. so I suspect it is a BIOS tweaking issue.

i followed most of the threads on this topic and up-ed my QPI voltage from 1.2 to 1.25 but was wondering if anything is running a similar system and can suggest stock values to make it more stable. the P6X58D Premium is listed as a qualified MB, maybe G.Skill can share their settings ...

    thanks

    Sam

Try enabling the XMP Profile. Do you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard?

    Thank you

i am running the latest BIOS (0303).. but i am confused about XMP.. i thought these modules didn't support XMP profiles

      according the CPU-Z
      DIMM # 1
      SMBus address 0x50
      Memory type DDR3
      Module format UDIMM
      Manufacturer (ID) G.Skill (7F7F7F7FCD000000)
      Size 4096 MBytes
      Max bandwidth PC3-10700 (667 MHz)
      Part number F3-10666CL9-4GBRL
      Number of banks 8
      Nominal Voltage 1.50 Volts
      EPP no
      XMP no
JEDEC timings table CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS-tRC @ frequency
      JEDEC #1 6.0-6-6-17-23 @ 457 MHz
      JEDEC #2 7.0-7-7-20-27 @ 533 MHz
      JEDEC #3 8.0-8-8-22-31 @ 609 MHz
      JEDEC #4 9.0-9-9-25-34 @ 685 MHz

will try again in the BIOS...
      Thanks

My mistake, I thought it was DDR3-1600.

The memory should definitely be plug and play, so if you are having a problem, send them in for new replacements and the new kit should work fine.

So are they supposed to run on stock values (everything on AUTO in the BIOS) ? i see too many post of tweaks./adjustments when dealing with 12Gb ... i would rather get advice from the PROs on what voltage/timing adjustments i should make,

Once the system boots and picks up the 12gb, it is very sable, all the memory tests pass without a problem so far. to me, this is more of a BIOS not properly detecting the memory than a defective memory stick

What DRAM Voltage and QPI/VTT voltage are you running?

right now, I have everthing set to Auto except QPI which I raised to 1.26 (default was 1.2)... DRAM voltage default on the ASUS board is 1.5

                Well.......

If I were you I'd bump the QPI/VTT up to 1.30v
If I were you I'd bump the DRAM Voltage up to 1.55
If I were you take the CPU voltage off of auto and set it at 1.25v

I keep seeing more and more users needing help with the issue of "missing memory", and more frequently the tech support folks telling users to send them in for replacements. I've also noted numerous threads around the web from users who have returned their sticks, received their replacements and everything is working fine now.

Can GSkill expound on what the problem is? I'm assuming that since the overwhelming recommendation lately has been to return the problematic memory, that GSkill has identified a mfg, engineering or quality issue......?

The missing memory problem can be quite triicky as there are so many possible reasons. We simply ask people to send them back as an attempt to solve the problem. Then if the replacement has the same problem, the issue may lie elsewhere. We can not go through every possible reason for missing memory with each user, sometimes it may be user error as well, so that's why it is so difficult to troubleshoot.
