Installed into DIMM_3 and DIMM_4.


[problem 1] My RAM gets set when MB is in auto mode at 1.67V instead of the 1.35V it is rated at. Also I cannot get the board to auto detect the proper 1600 JEDC timings of 7-8-7-24.
[problem 2] The CPU is also running at 42-48degrees idle (too hot) which I believe is because of the RAM running higher voltage than it should be.

This is a new build with new parts. I have the ram set to PC1600, and the manual timings set to 8-8-8-24-40-2T. I set the timing manually because the automatic setting puts it at 11-11-11. The rated 7-8-7-24 does not post when manually set to this.

Ok. I think i got it all sorted out. Let me know if you approve G.Skill support folks.

step 1 - in BIOS set DDR3 mode to 1333 mode instead of 1600
step 2 - in BIOS set the FSB from 200 to 250
step 3 - change the multipliers manually to set the system clock to the stock 3200 and HT/NB of 2000.
step 4 - set the memoy timing to manual at 7-8-7-24-33
step 5 - set the manual voltage settings instead of auto. adjust the CPU voltage down to 1.375 (normal) from the automatic 1.44 that it runs at
step 6 - reboot


So is this a safe way to get my PC1600 rated ram at 7-8-7-24 as spec'd? note that the motherboard still has the ram clocked at 1.6V since it won't let me notch it down.

Yes, that is the correct way to operate at spec. I suppose the 880 chipset does not allow anything lower than 1.60V VDIMM.
