  • Need help configuring ram

Model of the motherboard: Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 (revision 2.0)
    Model of the memory: G.Skill F3-14400CL9D-4GBFLS (2x2GB) DDR3
Model of the CPU: AMD 1090t black edition

I just bought some g skill flare ram, I haven't received it yet. I'm under the impression I have to do some overclocking to get the ram to run at 1800mhz even though the ram is 1800mhz.
Is it safe to overclock it up to 1800?
Overclocking use to be dangerous in the old days but it seems it the only way to get your ram running faster them 1333.
I'm using my ram for gaming can anyone help me with configuring it for best performance?
    Thanks

I also have the same MoBo/CPU, but with different memory, so my timing and voltages will not even be close to yours.
1st off; update the BIOS to F3, F1 is a bust, F2 was not much better, especially for OC
Next, you'll what to make a scratch pad of your HDW and BIOS settings for the kind folks who would like to help, like:
    - GIGABYTE 890FXA-UD5 (F3 BIOS)
--AMD Phenom II 1090T Thuban w/Arctic Silver 5 (@ x18 on STOCK Cooling)
    --G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 1600 F3-12800CL9Q-16GBRL (800Mhz, yeah baby!)
--Radeon 5850 SAPPHIRE Toxic (Under clocked for lower V & Temps)
--2x LG Flatron W2600H (sex for the eyes)
--CORSAIR CMPSU-850HX - 70A 12V SINGLE Rail (No staggered HDD boot!)
--OS - Mushkin Enhanced Callisto MKNSSDCL60GB (Virtual sex for my TIME)
--Win7 Ultra x64 (Better than VISTA, well duh!)
    --3x - WD Caviar Black WD1501FASS 1.5TB (Hmm, slower than Sammy F3?s!)
    --3x - SAMSUNG F3 HD103SJ 1TB (sweet drives, $70 a piece @ the egg)
--2x - ICY DOCK MB455SPF-B (ALL hotswap, even the SSD boot? ONCE!)
-*Many WD - 1T Green, 1T Black, 620GB Green, 620GB Black, Mostly eSATA and Firewire 400
    --LITE-ON DVD Writer iHAS-324-98 <on cheesy PCIe x1 Marvel/SYBA card
    --LITE-ON Blu-ray Burner iHBS112 <on cheesy PCIe x1 Marvel/SYBA card
--LIAN LI PC-A77F w/Side Window Panel [Mod/fans] W-75BM (Ya gets whats ya pays fa)
--SYBA SY-PEX40013 PCI Express SATA Controller Card (No meat with this cheese, temp)
--ASUS U3S6 PCIe x4 (Pain in the rear to play with the MoBo)
--Lian Li PW-IO7VB (Modded) Front Port Cable Assembly
    --Lamptron FC-2 - 45 Watts 6 Channel Fan Controller
    --CyberPower PP1500SWT4 UPS
OK, so I included WAY TOO much info, but I?m an ODC OC?er <Shrug>
If you have MS Word you can download the whole BIOS and record the hundreds of failed OC settings, or just right 'em down.

    Below is the share folder:
    https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B0g...OWFmY2Zi&hl=en
I uploaded them so I can keep the format on MY printers, YMMV
Pretty sure Google checks for bug, still best to scan for viruses.

Complete BIOS template is named (includes the hidden Ctrl + F1):
    GA_980FXA-UD5_BIOS_COMPLETE.docx

My BIOS cheat sheet with above HDW (Basically ALL the things I need to change for re-set):
    GA_980FXA-UD5_BIOS_NoBS-AMD-GIG-WIP.doc
Side note, I managed to use the above with (4) sticks of Ripjaws and stable under Mem86 overnightr using DDR1600 (800Mhz) speeds. Getting tighter timings are another Work In Proccess?
Most important rule for even mild OC is not to take it too seriously (where?s the fun in that!) and don?t lose your sense of humor!

Shouldn't be a problem. Your hardware should be capable. What you'll need to do is set memory ratio to 1:4 (max), this will give you DDR3-1600. To reach DDR3-1800, you need to raise the CPU Host Frequency up to 225. This will automatically raise memory to DDR3-1800. To stabilize this frequency, you may need to set some voltages such as the CPU-NB Voltage (memory controller). Once you find the lowest stable value, your system should run smoothly.

      Thank you
