I have an i3-530 with the 2x2GB kit , it fails memtest and I get random crashes, what are the best settings to have a stable system?

Enable XMP Profile and see how that works. You can also test them individually to see if one stick is bad.

Tested, one fails

I tried them with XMP set, it didn't work. So I ran memtest on each individually, one did okay after several passes. The other gives many errors (@20000 in one pass) , usually around the same location each time.
