  • Settings i860 GA p55 Ripjaws

    I am running a GA P55-UD7, i860, 8GB of Ripjaws (2 X 4) 12800cl9. I am running at 3.8 GHz for the cpu using Easy Tuner level 3.

I have tried searching but this search engine does not like short words and I have not found the info I am after. Is there a set of settings to use to optimize stable performance? Faster cpu would be nice.

BIOS settings are something you need to test and try for yourself.

Here is what it should roughly look like, but you will need to test for the lowest stable voltages for CPU VCore and QPI/VTT Voltage.

    Advanced CPU Features:
    CPU Clock Ratio ................................ [21x]
Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech .................. [Disabled]
    CPU Cores Enabled ............................ [All]
    CPU Multi Threading .......................... [Enabled]
    C3/C6/C7 State Support ................... [Auto]
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) ................... [Auto]
    C3/C6/C7 State Support .................... [Auto]
    CPU Thermal Monitor ......................... [Auto]
    CPU EIST Function ............................ [Disabled]
    Virtualization Technology ................... [Disabled]
    Bi-Directional PROCHOT ..................... [Auto]

    Uncore & QPI Features:
    QPI Clock Ratio ...........................................AUTO
    QPI Link Speed .............................. AUTO
    Uncore Clock Ratio...........................AUTO
    Uncore Frequency .......................... AUTO
    Isonchronous Frequency ..................[Enabled]

    Standard Clock Control:
Base Clock (BCLK) Control ................ [Enabled]
    BCLK Frequency (MHz) ..................... 200
PCI Express Frequency (MHz) ........... [100]

    C.I.A.2 [Disabled]

    Advanced Clock Control:
    CPU Clock Drive ..............................[800mV]
PCI Express Clock Drive ................... [900mV]
    CPU Clock Skew ............................. [0ps]

    Advanced DRAM Features:
Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P) ......... [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) ........ [8.0]
    Performance Enhance ...................... [Standard]
DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD) .......... [Expert]

    Channel A + B + C

    Channel A Timing Settings:
    ##Channel A Standard Timing Control##
    CAS Latency Time ...................... 9
    tRCD ....................................... 9
    tRP ......................................... 9
    tRAS ....................................... 24

    ##Channel A Advanced Timing Control##

    Command Rate (CMD) ................ 2

    Advanced Voltage Control:

    CPU
    CPU VCore ............................... 1.40V
    Load Line Calibration ................. [Disabled]
    QPI/VTT Voltage 1.150v ............ 1.100V [1.400V]

    DRAM
    DRAM Voltage 1.500v .............. 1.50V

I put in the settings you recommended. Seems to work so far.

      A few questions.

The recommended CPU VCore was at 1.05 and you recommend 1.40 - that seems like a rather large change. Is it correct/reasonable?

QPI/VTT - as you wrote it there are three numbers. 1.150.......1.100V (where it was) and [1.40] which I believe was what you want it set too. Could you verify/explain these three numbers?

You also have visualization disabled. I do run a VM. May I assume that turning on visualization is OK?

An unrelated question. It is unusual to see a requirement for entering an image verification once you are a logged on user. What is the point of doing this in this web site? If you are logged on, there is no longer a real identity issue therefore bot activity is also rather unlikely and easily controllable.

CPU VCore you'll need to find the lowest stable value. But if 1.40V is working, that's great, now you just have to go down until unstable. Of course the change is large, we're going from 2.80GHz to 4.20GHz!

For QPI/VTT, the first two are just defaults. 1.40V is what you should set it at.

Yes, you can turn on Virtualization.

Regarding image verification, sometimes bots still get passed through and they end up posting explicit stuff that we do not want at all. We are just trying to eliminate that as much as possible. When does it require you to image verify? I will create a normal user account to see what you guys experience because obviously I don't experience the same things as Admin.

        Thank you

Thanks. It was running at 3.8 with the 1.05 Vcore. The cpu is running a bit warmer now (43 C). I will play around with Vcore and see if anything breaks at this speed.

The captcha is not a real big deal. Just wondering why. It is just a little bit extra step. Sometimes I have to try a couple of times.

I just changed it to cap instead of normal image verify. Should be easier to figure what words they are rather than letters.
