  • New Build

I am about to order everything for my new build, I have always been a Intel person but going with AMD this time. I'm going from DDR2 to DDR3 memory and GSkill memory is the best out there in my opinion. Was wondering if I could get a little help in choosing the best memory for my build. This is going to be my setup.

ASUS Crosshair IV Formula 890FX AMD Motherboard
    AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 125W Quad-Core Processor
    Scythe Mugen-2 Rev.B SCMG-2100 CPU Cooler

I was looking at this memory: 2 Sets of G.SKILL ECO Series 4GB F3-12800CL9D-4GBECO

Would this be a good memory for this setup, I do plan on overclocking some.

Contact ASUS first to see if this motherboard can reduce VDIMM to 1.35V. If not, you will need to go with a 1.50V or 1.60V kit instead.

8GB of DDR3-1600 should not be a problem. Although for similar pricing, you can get the CL7 or CL8.

    Thank you

      Memory

The memory is in the validation list on their website for the motherboard so it should work, but you think going with timmings of CL7 would be better then CL9?

These are the 4GB sets of GSkill memory that Asus list that will work with this motherboard, any suggestions on what you might think would work the best?

      G.SKILL
      F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO(XMP)
      4GB(2 x 2GB) 7-8-7-24

      G.SKILL
      F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH(XMP)
      4GB(2 x 2GB) 7-7-7-24 - 1.65V

      G.SKILL
      F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM(XMP)
      4GB(2 x 2GB) 8-8-8-24 - 1.6V

      G.SKILL
      F3-12800CL9D-4GBECO(XMP)
      4GB(2 x 2GB) 9-9-9-24 - 1.35

If they are listed, go ahead with the

        G.SKILL
        F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO(XMP)
        4GB(2 x 2GB) 7-8-7-24

as they are the highest performing of the four. Yes CL7 would surely be better than CL9, but it is only necessary if you are looking for max performance.

        Thank you
