  • Asus P5E3 crash with 2x2Gb+2x1Gb

    Hello,

    I have a ASUS P5E3 Deluxe, with a E8500 and two GSkill kit :
    F3-10600CL9D-2GBNQ
    (DDR3-1333 1GB 1.5-1.65V PC3-10600 CL9-9-9-24)

    F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ
    (DDR3-1600 2GB 1.5-1.6V PC3-12800 CL9-9-9-24)

I am running Windows Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64.

If I run the board with the first kit (ie 2GB) or the second kit (ie 4GB) it works great and 100% stable.

When I am adding the 4 SIMM at once in the board, for a total of 6GB, I am getting blue screen whenever Windows use over 4GB of physical memory.
One easy way of doing this is to simply copy a bunch of larges (eg 2GB) files using the Explorer.
Windows will use the physical memory as cache and when it is using over 4 GB... Windows crashes.

Memtest will show errors as well but it takes longer to show up.

I tried swaping the memory banks but the MB will boot only in one set-up.

Is there a way to make the two kits work together ?
My priority is getting 6GB working reliable over getting raw speed.

    Thanks,

    Richard.

Increase NB Voltage to 1.40V and that should stabilize all 4 modules.

Let me know how that goes.

    Thank you

      Hello,

I gave it a try. Unfortunately the computer is still freezing.

For instance when I run the Windows 7 memory test from the boot screen, the computer will lock-up at stage 2/2 around 30% of the test (66% of overall test)

I can boot to Windows 7 without trouble. I can use it for a while doing basic stuff. As a test I moved 70Gb from one disk to another without problem.
But when I start multiple programs at once the computer will simply freeze.
I use this computer heavily and it only freezes when the 4 DIMM are installed.

Is there something else that I can adjust ?

      Thanks

      Richard.

Post pictures of your BIOS and I can see what may be set incorrectly. Also, make sure you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard.

        Thank you

          Hello,

I left all the setting to be the default, that is "Auto" settings.

I used MemSet to display the effective memory settings :

I am a bit deseperate to get all the 6GB to work together !

          Regards,

          Richard.

              Hello,

Actually, all the settings are default. I just changed the NB voltage has per your instructions.

Sorry about the images. (Imageshack don't work with IMG balise ?)

Here is the SDP parameter for the two models of SIMM:

Set AI Overclock Tuner to Manual.

Set memory settings to DDR3-1333, 9-9-9-24, and see if that works.

                Thank you

                  Hello,

A quick update : the situation didn't improved.

Windows will freeze once in a while.

Windows Memtest will hang at 21% on the second pass, but only when I have the 4 SIMM installed.

                  What to try next ?

                  Thanks,

                  Richard.
