  • G. Skill DDR3 F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL POST-Delay

I have a new build... here are the specs:

    CM HAF 932
    Intel Core i7 860
    Ultra X4 U12-40504 750 Watt PSU
    CM V8 CPU Cooler
ASUS Maximus III Formula - AMI Bios v. 1305 (1/14/10)
    8 GB - G. Skill DDR3 F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
    Intel - SSDSA2M040G2GC 40GB
    Western Digital WD10EAVS-00M4B0 1TB
    EVGA GeForce 9800GT
    Optiarc DVD RW AD-7240s
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

From power on to beginning of POST is delayed depending on amount of RAM installed.

With 4GB installed, from power on to begin POST takes 17 seconds; with 8GB installed, 35 seconds before POST begins. BIOS is set to XMP Profile, no overclocking of cpu, gpu, or memory. BIOS is set to quick boot. Each module installed by itself will boot system.

    CPU-Z reports :

    DRAM Freq. - 802.5 MHz
    FSBRAM - 2:12
    CL - 9
    tRCD - 9
    tRP - 9
    tRAS - 24
    tRFC - 88
    CR - 2T
Windows Memory Diagnostics reports no errors, all installed memory is recognized, computer operates normally with no issues after boot.

I think the delay from power on to begin POST is memory detection. Has anyone heard about or dealt with this issue? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried testing one module at a time? Very odd...

Yes, I have tested each module by itself. Monitoring the POST with the RC Tweakit Utility through ROG Connect on my laptop show the status of "detecting memory" during the delay period between the initial power-on and the beginning of POST (approx. 30 seconds) Do you think this is a compatability issue?

No, they are surely compatible, the XMP Profile was designed for it... so I would suggest sending them in for new replacements and the new set should work much better.

Hmm.. I have the same problem on my Maximus III Formula. I have 4 GB. It hangs for about 16 seconds trying to detect the RAM.

Generally it's a slow POST motherboard, but try testing each module individually to see if one will have a problem while the other does not.

I had to RMA the board. I will update when I have new one installed.
