  • Cold Boot Errors: Asus P7P55D-EVO; F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ

Problem is this cold boot memory errors, every day at first power up. I actually boot up into Memtest86+ v4, in the morning. And receive hundreds of errors. I must power on/off (cannot be restarted otherwise errors exist again (i.e. Esc from Memtest will continue the errors)) then Memtest will pass the test. I remove the disk and boot into Win7 64 bit and the computer will run all day and night without issue.

I purchased the computer last week and built it during the week. I had to reinstall Win7 twice as the memory errors caused corruption.

    Testing
Once the system is past its, cold boot issues, I have run a 10hour Memtest without any errors. The system is currently running fine; and I have operated the system non-stop for 16hours yesterday, again no issues.

Question is: why am I getting these Cold Boot memory errors. Should I return the RAM?

    UPDATE:
    02/Mar/2010
I have returned the RAM to the supplier as a DOA item within their 7day policy. Whilst they just provided a replacement part, I also purchased another one unit (same model) so that I have 8G in total. I ran a 1 pass Memtest86 without errors; however the PC was only switched off for 2 hours. The real test will be tomorrow morning's cold boot...

    UPDATE 2:
03/Mar/2010 8hr poweroff: Cold boot Memtest - passed! Replacing the RAM seems to have done the trick.

    FINAL UPDATE:
04/Mar/2010 24hr poweroff: Cold boot Memtest - passed a single pass.
05/Mar/2010 8hr poweroff: Cold boot Memtest - passed a single pass.

Looks like the replacing those RAM units has fixed the issue and I can boot to Win7 from Cold boot for now on.
