Which RAM is best suited for an i3-540? Running on an Intel BOXDH55TC (not overclocked).
F3-10666CL9D-4GBRL
F3-10666CL8D-4GBRM
F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH
or another GSKILL?
TiA.
F3-10666CL7D-4GBECO can be the perfect choice for you since it drains less power, lower temps and got nice performance (only 1.35V working@ 7-7-7-21 timings)
The ECO series is definitely the hot stuff right now. For CAS latency 7 and 8, you may need to manually set the timings in BIOS. That should take 5 minutes so it's not that big of a deal, especially if you're looking for that extra bit of performance.
Thanks! After doing some more digging I found this from the Intel datasheet -322909 that might help others too. It appears I might want to put my 8GB of F3-10666CL9D-4GBRL into the i3 machine instead (and buy F3-10666CL8D-4GBRM for the i7-840) to set the memory timing of each to 1333. Intel? Core™ i5-600, i3-500 Desktop Processor Series datasheet
Table 2-2. i5-600 & i3-500 DDR3 System Memory Timing Support Transfer Rate (MT/s) 1066
tCL-tRCD-tRP-CWL
7 - 7 - 7 - 6
8 - 8 - 8 - 6
That's what Intel supports, but they do not support anything but the standard which is why it is capped at DDR3-1333. They will actually operate with higher frequencies or lower timings.
