Just got this system up and running. Booted up fine the first time. Memtest v4 showed no errors after 6 passes but said the memory was running at 9-9-9-24. Vista 64 installed fine but then ran into problems trying to update and ended up getting a blue screen. I went into the bios and set the XMP parameter and now memtest shows the 8-8-8-21 timings.
I'm currently testing the sticks individually in both the A and B channels. My questions are: 1) Could the improper timings cause the BSOD? and 2) I have ordered another set of this memory for a total of 8GB. With all four sockets populated can I leave the XMP setting in place or should I set the timings manually?

    Thanks for the help.

Yes, improper timings can cause BSOD and many other problems that may make it seem as if the memory is defective.

With two sets, the XMP Profile should be able to detect everything on it's own.

    Thank you
