  • ASUS M4A79XTD EVO with F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM

    Hi,

    My setup is as follows:

CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 BE C2 125W
    Motherboard: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
    Memory: F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM 2 x 2GB Kit

I am unable to run this memory at 1600Mhz, no matter what the timing. I have set the voltage manually to 1.6V.
I tried 7-8-7-24-2N, 8-8-8-24-2N, 9-9-9-24-2N at 1600 MHz, and in every single case, memtest86 will fail, Windows will have random crashes due to AMD HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error, and prime95 fails. I tried each stick individually and still things fail.

If I set the frequency to 1333MHz, Auto timings, 2N command rate, everything is fine. Memtest86 can run overnight with no issues, prime95 passes, no random crashes.

Are there any extra settings I need to change to make this stable? Perhaps the CPU/NB voltage or frequency? Or is my motherboard bad? Or is the memory bad?

Make sure you have the latest bios update from Asus.

Check this post, maybe it will help you:

No good. I have the memory in the blue slots and I have the latest BIOS.

I tried a variety of settings suggested on that page but I still am failing memtest at 1600 MHz. I tried bumping up the DRAM voltage to 1.66 as well.

What are the optimized timings for 1333 MHz for this setup?

Start with something like 7-7-7-21 30 1T @1333Mhz and work with it.

          I did bench with 6-6-5-20 28 1T @ 1333Mhz, 100% Stable

It seems that every setup is unique. I run my memory at 7-8-7-22 30 1T @1600mhz 1,6v. I don't know why I seem to be the only one who can run these settings.

So make your own test, the best settings will come with try and retry

Try increasing the HT Voltage to 1.40V to see if that will stabilize.

            Thank you

That HT Voltage settings shows up red in the BIOS. I'm not sure I want to do that.

I tried the lowest HT voltage without going red, 1.28V (standard 1.20V), didn't help.

It seems to be 100% stable at 6-6-5-18 23 1T @ 1333 Mhz. Well... so I'm guessing my memory is okay and either the motherboard or CPU can't handle 1600 MHz.

Those are great timings for that speed. Glad to hear you were able to get that stable. Sounds like your CPU is having issues operating DDR3-1600, but the current configuration should be just as fast if not faster.

                    Thank you
