  • Maximus III Formula and F3-16000CL9D-4GB Ripjaws

Need some help on this one as I'm stumped....

    My setup is
200 BCLK x 20 for 4.0GHz running ram currently at 1600 7-7-7-20 and I get decent bandwidth BUT if I wanted 1600MHz ram I would have bought it.

If I set ram to 2000MHz 9-9-9-27 with my IMC at 1.39 and ram at 1.65 I can pass memtest all day long but once into Windows I error instantly on a prime run.

So as my frustration has got the best of me I need some clear thinking advice on how to get my ram to 2000MHz

    OC From CPU Level Up:Auto
    OC From Memory Level up:Auto
    CPU Ratio: 20

I'm curious...the fail in Prime sounds more like a CPU difficulty rather than a memory problem. Can you reduce your CPU ratio a step or two and retest Prime leaving your RAM at 2000? CPU ratio won't affect the RAM speed. Correct me if I'm wrong. And I'm not a tech, just bored for the moment.

      Use these settings:

      AI Overclock Tuner:Manual
      OC From CPU Level Up:Auto
      OC From Memory Level up:Auto
      CPU Ratio: 17

      Intel Speed Step: Disabled
      BCLK Frequency:167
      PCIE Frequency:102
      Dram Frequency: DDR3-2000MHz @ 9-9-9-27
      QPI Frequency:Auto
      CPU Clock Amplitude: Auto
      PCH Clock Amplitude:Auto
      CPU Clock Skew:Auto
      PCH Clock Skew:Auto

      Extreme OV: Disabled
      Full Phase Control:Full Phase
      Load Line Calibration:Enabled
      CPU Voltage Mode:VID
      CPU Volts: AUTO
      CPU PLL:1.90
      IMC:AUTO
      PCH:AUTO
      Dram:1.65

Once this works, then work on voltages and overclock.

      Thank you

the cpu passes all day long with the ram at 1600MHz blend or small fft's even linpak passes, once ram is moved to 2000MHz prime fails blend test.

So this is a ram/IMC related issue cpu is not the culprit.

chip is stable @ 4.0GHz my oc is not the problem the ram will not run at rated speed on this overclock others have the same problem as me with different board so it is not bios related, I should not have to downclock my CPU to run the ram at rated speeds unless I missed the memo.... I see no reason to run QPI on auto unless you can give a valid reason too.
Corsairs run 2100MHz easy with 1.55volts my ripjaws fail 1600MHz@ 1.55 volts and the jedec says they should run at that voltage, so I can assume this kit is not rated for 2000MHz unless you run the CPU at stock speeds

To be exact, it is simply a BIOS setting issue.

            Thank you

I'm not trying to be rude, please understand I'm just frustrated but your response is a little BS for being a rep of said ram...
Clearly I'm well a ware its a bios setting thats why I'm here asking for help
unless the divider is broken the ram should work at 2000MHz with my current settings, if I'm missing something please feel free to educate me

I apologize if I came off rude, but I just wanted to state that the settings you originally had them at are not optimum for your setup. The 860 processor does not like the 10X memory multiplier and depending on your motherboard BCLK 200 may be an issue as well which is why I gave you slightly different settings.

I am here to help you get your computer running properly, I have the exact setup, so we will be able to get it working properly. Simply try the settings I provide and report the results and I will be able to troubleshoot the issue. =)

                Thank you

ok I will run your suggested settings and report back
If I sounded rude I apologize as well, I'm just stumped on this one, ram overclocking was never a problem for me on 775 seems there is a learning curve for 1156

Ram is stable at 2000MHz finally.
Once the XMP profile was enabled in teh bios and overclock settings dial'd in the ram passes 6 hours of prime and 20 loop IBT

Glad to hear it worked out. We enjoy overclocking as well, but when we're trying to troubleshoot the issue it's just easier to minimize possible faults, which is why I wanted to revert some settings. You should enjoy that fast setup. =)
