  • RipJawz Z Ram Question

So in 2013 I had this RAM. https://www.gskill.com/product/165/1...Q2-64GBZLD-EOL

I was wondering if it came in a 4 x 16 or 2 x 32 configuration where each stick had 16 or 32 GB with 4 or 2 sticks total. Does anybody know or if they have a pair willing to sell it?

All models with a -Q2 in their SKU are x8 kits, so consist of eight modules. G.SKILL had no DDR3 kits that consisted of 16GB or 32GB modules.

Officially the IC density required for 16GB DDR3 UDIMM was not planned on the JEDEC roadmap, but Micron did produce 8Gbit DDR3 ICs regardless. The OEM modules made from these were fairly rare and also expensive. I don't think anyone produced retail kits from them, though. So if your motherboard only has four slots, does not support RDIMM (server class hardware) and you absolutely need more than 32GB / 4x8GB memory, you would probably be better off upgrading to a newer platform.

This was the kit I had. https://www.eteknix.com/g-skill-laun...ts-at-2400mhz/

It seems it was a super rare kit of some sort. Does anybody have one they want to sell or know where I can get it?

The news contains information about dozens of different SKUs, from 2x4GB DDR3-1600 to higher frequency 8x8GB stuff. To find what you are looking for, go by the model number. For the one in your first post above that would be F3-17000CL11Q2-64GBZLD.

Most of that stuff is out of production for a decade now, so you will probably have look for it at green markets like ebay etc. However the x8 kits were fairly rare, so consider combining two 4x8GB kits as an alternative (F3-17000CL11Q-32GBZLD). While two of those might not necessarily work together in all cases, there still is a pretty good chance it could work out.

The same is true for many other x8 kits, most of them also had x4 counterparts. Same module capacity & spec, just a different factory packaging.

My motherboard only has 4 DIMM slots for ram though. I'm using an MSI Z77A-G45 motherboard.
