  • Looking for DDR3 1600 RAM with an 800Mhz JEDEC profile

My system is an i5-3470S 2.9GHz with a Q77 chipset. It currently has two 2GB memory modules (PC12800, CL11, 1.5v). I would like to upgrade to 8GB or more, if necessary.

Unfortunately, this BIOS does not support XMP settings, so it uses JEDEC settings for the RAM frequency and timings. These are locked/can not be modified.

I previously purchased a kit by another manufacturer, however after installing I discovered it was running at 1333 (667MHz) with CL9. Using CPU-Z, the SPD tab shows this memory has no JEDEC profile for 800MHz, which is only available with XMP.

I've tried looking for other memory kits, but finding out their JEDEC profiles is frustratingly difficult. While researching, I've seen that DDR3 1600 defaulting to 1333 is very common.

An example using G.Skill memory, model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2.
For that kit, I found a list of profiles, which includes JEDEC #3 800MHz, CL9, 1.25v. But I'm not sure my system supports such a low voltage.

However, F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR1 is a 1.35v kit, which I know works for sure, but I've been unable to find JEDEC tables for the SR1 variant. I was able to find them for the original 1.5v F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR, which only supports 667Mhz without XMP.

So... turns out this is not an easy task. Even mostly similar models can have very different default settings.

Can anyone recommend me a kit (8 or 16GB) that they know has an 800MHz JEDEC profile, ideally with CL9 timings?

Or, how compatible/stable would the G.Skill 1.25v RAM be in my system? All of its profiles from 622MHz up to the XMP800 are set to use either 1.28 or 1.25volts.

I would just accept the hit to the frequency, but at 1333/667MHz I noticed that in a few games I play (using wonderful Intel HD graphics) there would be a few display glitches. Replacing with the original 1600/800MHz memory resolved that issue.

(Attached is a pic I found from a review of the F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 kit).

Actually it is pretty easy for the G.SKILL kits, since it is listed on their product pages under SPD speed. For example:

    http://gskill.com/en/product/f3-2400c11d-8gsr
    http://gskill.com/en/product/f3-1866c11d-16gnt

    http://gskill.com/en/product/f3-1600c11d-8gis

So all of those and probably lots of others have a basic profile for DDR3-1600.

DDR3-1600 CL9 is no longer JEDEC, it would need to be under XMP.

      DDR3-1600 CL11 is JEDEC:

      CL9 JEDEC would be DDR3-1333.

I think those CPUz pics are misread with an outdated version or something.
