  • GA-990FXA-UD3 (3.0) issue with 1866 memory

    I have a GA-990FXA-UD3 (3.0) motherboard with a AMD FX 8350 4GHz AM3+ Black Edition CPU, Windows 10 64bit.
    I bought G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL10Q-32GBZL to replace my 4x4gb 1066 memory.
Well from days of going through the web and trying everything and kitchen sink. I could not get the memory up to 1866. I did finally get all four 8gb modules up to 1600.
I did get a response from Gigabyte and this is what I got.
Due to the memory controller on the CPU, you can only run 2 module at 1866mhz. If you wish to run 4 memory module you must run it at 1600mhz.
Kind of disappointed from specs from their site and vendors doesnt mention that condition.
Is there a recommended motherboard that will not have issues running memory 4x8gb at 1866MHz?

    Thank You

That motherboard is capable, you just need to boost the CPU-NB Voltage about 0.1V and it should help the CPU memory controller support full slots of DDR3-1866

That was one of steps I already performed. CPU-NB 1.2 and Dram voltage to 1.55. It did not work for 1866 but it did for 1600.

Are you able to get 1-2 modules running stable at 1866?

Do you have the latest BIOS?
