  • MSI 990FXA Gaming Compatibility

Just purchased and installed new MSI 990FXA Gaming MB. G.Skill RAM Configurator not updated yet. I do a little video editing and lots of gaming. Anyone have an idea what 1866 or 2133 memory would work??

What CPU do you have? You will need a good one to support DDR3-1866+

Here is a good memory kit:

Thought specs would show up in sig. Anyways, AMD FX8320 running stock 3.5.Wanting to put in 2 x 8gb. OC'ing scares me. Disabled and $$ comes to hard to see it go up in smoke lol

Edit: Now it shows up lol. The Crucial went out with the old MB...

Thanks for the recommendation. I know I would have to OC to get it to 2133 (by MB specs). Thinking that might be more heat than I need in this air cooled system. So maybe 1866 stock would be better??

Going from DDR3-1866 to DDR3-2133 adds very little heat and most FX don't even need a voltage bump on the memory controller for that.

Put in 2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws F3-2133C9D-16GXH and it works great. I went straight into Setup vice letting it boot all the way in. Setup showed 1600 was selected. Clicked on it and 2133 was there. Selected 2133 and haven't had any problems whatsoever. The #1 DIMM slot sets close to CPU fan cooler. The very top of the memory stick heat spreader rests against the rubber fan mount on the CPU cooler and doesn't present a problem.
