  • Which RAM is suitable?

I am trying to get DDR3 RAM so suit and work on a Gigabyte G41M-Combo Motherboard.
I bought 1 x 4GB stick of Kingston KVR13N9S8/4 and found out it was not compatible with the board. I was able to exchange that for 2 x 2GB KVR13N9S6/2 which also do not work on the board and are to be returned.

The shop where I buy my parts has the following G.Skill RAM available:

    G Skill 8G(2x4G) DDR3 1600MHZ PC3-12800 CL9(8GBXL)

    G.Skill 8G(2*4G) DDR3-2400 Dual Channel [TDX] F3-2400C10D-8GTX

    G Skill 8G(2x4G)DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800(CL9D-8GBSR2)

    G Skill 8G(2x4G) DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800(GS-F3-1600C9D-8GAO)

    G Skill 4G(2x2G) DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800 RL 9-9-9-24(CL9D-4GBRL)

can anybody suggest which of the above RAM will work on the Gigabyte G41M-Combo Motherboard?

    Thanks.

If all of those are of recent production, they may not work. Older motherboards can not support the latest single side 4GB DIMMs. Look for double sided chips and they should work.

Would both of these sticks of RAM be the same, given that 2 websites have it listed differently?

      G Skill 4G(2x2G) DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800 9-9-9-24(CL9D-4GBNQ)- this from my suppliers website.

F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ - this from the Gigabyte compatibility list for the G41M Combo Motherboard.

My guess is that the CL9D-4GBNQ being the same in both descriptions is that they are the same.

Also the RAM is 1600MHz, does the Motherboard automatically compensate and make the RAM run at 1333MHz or would I have to change the speed somewhere?

All current higher rated kits have fallback profiles for lower speeds like DDR3-1333/1066/800. That is part of the JEDEC DDR3 standard. So that is not an issue.

          Thanks emissary42.

I ended up making a 3rd trip to my supplier with case and motherboard in tow for them to find a matching set of RAM that work on the motherboard.

They ended up getting the G Skill 4G(2x2G) DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800 RL 9-9-9-24(CL9D-4GBRL) to work. Pheeeew!
