  • F3-12800cl9d-8gbxl + f3-1600c9d-16gxm?

Hi, can i mix 2 ram kit?
    I have F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL (4GBx2) on a Asus P67 motherboard (dual channel) running at 1600MHz (X.M.P. 9-9-9-24-2N 1.50V). Can i add F3-1600C9D-16GXM (8GBx2)?

Mixing two kits of different size and age can be problematic even if the specs are somewhat comparable. Sometimes it does work out, but there is no guarantee whatsoever. If you already bought the 2x8GB kit, try using the profiles of F3-1600C9D-16GXM for both kits, because larger modules often need more relaxed subtimings.

so it would be better to buy another F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL kit?

If your other kit is already serveral years old, there is a good chance the ICs used on this kit have changed since then. So a never kit might have other ICs and there could still be issues in mixing them. I am not an official though, maybe you get another opinion tomorrow.

(You could also buy the F3-1600C9D-16GXM and then just sell your 2x4GB kit.)

It is best to use a single kit, but if you really want to try and add, your best chance is to use the same model RAM. Should be fairly easy to sell the original kit, or keep as back up.

          Thank you
