  • Memory can't go over 2100Mhz - Asrock Z77 oc formula and G.SKILL F3-12800CL6D-4GBPI

    Hi guys.

    I have a leftover 4 memory sticks of G.SKILL F3-12800CL6D-4GBPI 6-8-6-24 1600Mhz 1.6v.

My motherboard is: Asrock Z77 oc formula and cpu is i7-3770k.

    I can do 8-10-8-26 2000Mhz with only 1.58v. and it's possible when I rise a BCLK.

Increasing voltages or relaxing timings does not help to oc memory further.

I know that those are PSC chips.

Do you have any idea what can be done to improve OC.

I am posting memory timings Below.

    thanks in advance.

    Try 7-11-7-28 / 7-11-8-28 / 8-11-8-28 @ DDR3-2133 starting with 1.65V and if you're ok, try reducing voltage afterwards.

Your mainboard should have a PSC profile that you can use and adjust.

yes it does and I am using them - Default was 9-12-9-28 - and I was able to boot with 7-9-7-24 timings with DDR3 2000Mhz - but was not very stable with it - Each time I want to OC modules to 2133 Mhz - it does not boot.

Anyway thanks for an answer - I have another modules ddr3 Mushkin 997071 Redline - they too can boot with 1.6 10-10-10-30 2000Mhz - and than NADA - no go....
May be its CPU-s weak IMC???

I've never seen an 3770K that did not do at least DDR3-2400. Its more likely that there's a setting or two that are just off or your memory is not up to the task. However even the weakest PSC T-series should do 9-11-9 @ 2133 if it can do 8-10-8 @ 2000. So that leaves your bios configuration to start with. Maybe even try another version and start from scratch. I heard good things about some of the earlier betas like 1.42L and 1.42K for PSC overclocking.

Also note what postcode you get upon a failed boot. If you're stuck at 55 then its memory related, where 23 is about IMC and/or IMC voltage (VCCSA/VCCIO).

Those Mushkin 997071 can have basically any chips under their spreaders. I can not give you any hints on those, other than to try the 4gbit profiles one by one, if there is any. For Samsung and Hynix stuff there should be some, that can be adjusted to 9-11-10-27 @ 2133 or 10-12-11-31 @ 2400. However this is probably not the best forum to ask about these ;-)
