  • Help with F2-8500CL5D-4GBPI-B

First of all, thanks for leting me be part in this forum.
And sorry for my english, since my first language is spanish, i'm from argentina.

Well, just wanted to know wich is the best config for these memories, and why somtimes i get a blue screen and reset.

    F2-8500CL5D-4GBPI-B (PI Black)
    DDR2-1066 PC2-8500
    2048MB x 2
    CL5-5-5-15 2.0-2.1V

    I have an Asus motherboard - M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe
    Phenom 9950 Black Edition(140W)
    XFX Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX+
    Thermaltake Thoughpower 750W

    Thanks for helping me!

Your CPU may be struggling for DDR2-1066. Raise CPU-NB Voltage (+0.1V) and HT Voltage (+0.3V) to see if it helps.

    Thank you

Hi, it's me again. And again with troubles.
I'll try to explain the problem...
Sometimes when playing some game like MAFIA II or Colin DIRT or any other, it's like the LCD monitor doesn't receive video signal, but I still listen the game sounds, and after 2 or 3 seconds system reboot(reset?).
And sometimes I get the blue screen while on windows(WIN7 32bits)

All the drivers are up to date but still don't know what to do.
I've tried setting the Bios in AUTO mode, i mean, everything auto, but still with trouble.

This is the BIOS ADVANCE CONFIG

          Tonquito,

          1. Make sure that you're running the latest BIOS version for your motherboard
          2. Clear CMOS and reload Default Settings
          3. Manually change the following;

          Advanced>Jumper Free Configuration
          A.I. Tuning [Manual]
          CPU Voltage [Auto]
          VDDA Voltage [Auto]
          Memory Voltage [2.1v]
          MF200 Chip Voltage [1.26v]
          1.2 HT Voltage [1.26]
          NB Chip Voltage [1.26]
          CPU Multiplier [Auto]
          CPU Frequency [200]

          Now go to DRAM Configuration
          Memory Clock Frequency [1066]
          Tcl [5]
          Trcd [5]
          Trp [5]
          Tras [15]

          1T/2T Memory Timing [2T]

          DRAM Ganged Mode [Disabled]
          Memory Hole Remapping [Disabled]

          Save changes and reboot.

p.s. make sure you have the yellow slots populated (i.e. channels A1 and B1) for this round of testing. if that doesn't work so well we can try the black slots.
          MSI Big Bang xPower x58
          Intel i7 950
          GSkill DDR3 2000 6x2Gb
          Gigabyte GTX 460 x2 SLi
OCZ Vertex 2 SSD - OS Drive
          WD Black 640Gb x2 RAID0 - Apps and Programs
WD Black 1Tb backup and storage

After playing for 5 or 7 minutes system crash again and reboot.

I checked on ASUS and it seems that these memories are not supported, could this be the issue?

It say they support the following:

            G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK DDR2 1066 2048MB(Kit of 2) DS Heat-Sink Package 5-5-5-15
            G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK DDR2 1066 4096MB(Kit of 2) DS Heat-Sink Package 5-5-5-15
            G.SKILL F2-8500CL5S-1GBPK DDR2 1066 1024MB DS Heat-Sink Package 5-5-5-15

Should I buy one of those or may be any other brand?
Will I be able to use double chanel?

Anyway, I still want to make mines work.

Anything else I should change on the BIOS?

            Thanks again!

Change your CPU voltage from [Auto] and give it a small bump.

What does CPUz report your current cpu voltage under load?

              And then we'll change the following;

              1.2 HT Voltage [1.30]
              NB Chip Voltage [1.30]
              MSI Big Bang xPower x58
              Intel i7 950
              GSkill DDR3 2000 6x2Gb
              Gigabyte GTX 460 x2 SLi
OCZ Vertex 2 SSD - OS Drive
              WD Black 640Gb x2 RAID0 - Apps and Programs
WD Black 1Tb backup and storage
              Corsair TX950W

Should I run any test? like memtest o something like that? I'm having some free time tonight so i'll be able to do them.

I've just ran Memtest86+, 1 pass, no errors. When testing, it says, latency 8-5-5-15, but i've set them 5-5-5-15, why is that?

No, i'm looking for CPU voltage and Temp monitor, so I can see what is happening when the system crashes.

                  Any suggest?

are you reading the DRAM timings from the BIOS or looking at the Memtest report?

what version of Memtest are you running? - latest stable is version 4.10

passing a full round of Memtest is a good start.

I meant that I set(like you told me before) the latencies to 5-5-5-15 on the BIOS, but when running Memtest it says 8-5-5-15 on the memtest screen.
4.10 is the version i used and passed 1 full round.

Is there any software that log in a file the cpu voltage or something like that? i mean, like GPU-Z, that saves the information in real time?

And I also think the CPU temp is a bit high. When running 3DMark06 or 3DMark Vantage, it shows 88?C in CPUID, CoreTemp and Everest. I was also planning on changin the stock cooler, may be a Thermaltake...

Anyway, any other test i should do?

After testing for a while the CPU, GPU, and memories, the only thing i can think is that these memories are not qualified for my mobo...

OCCT has a built in logger that will save graphs of your core temperatures, 3.3v - 5v - 12voltages while the test is in progress. Awesome tool.

Did you fail an extended run of Memtest or are you still suffering from BSODs or lock ups at the new settings?

Your cpu temps are definitely too high. Under extended full load stress testing the max I'm comfortable with is 75C, and in my opinion even that is pushing it. You should be aiming for about 70C or lower when running an extended full load stress test.
As far as the memory timings that Memtest is reporting - as long as your BIOS shows the timings set at 5-5-5-15 then you can disregard what Memtest is showing. Another way to double check your timings within the Windows GUI is use a program like CPUz.

Stress test, CPU 65?C, CPU core 71?C, GPU 67?C
                            Memtest, no errors.
                            Voltages ok.

                            Still crashes!

I'll try one more tests round, change some settings, and see what happens... or I will be changing these memories soon...

You can certainly try a different memory kit. GSkill has great warranty and RMA service. They will exchange for you even if they don't find anything wrong.

Ask them to pretest kit prior to shipping it out.

But................ you may have a different issue such as a bad on cpu memory controller that might be causing your problems
