  • computer is not posting

I have a kit of dual channel F2-6400CL6D-8GBMQ on foxconn Q45m.

I have been using it for a week now the computer is acting up.

The computer won't post. Nothing is shown on the screen. No beeping at all.

So I analyzed and troubleshoot the problem.

I discovered that when I only have 1 stick installed, regardless of each slot, the computer posts. As soon as I install a pair, either 1-3 or 2-4, it won't post. Or sometimes it posts but the computer keeps freezing and hanging.

The BIOS is the latest and set the default. I have no OC. No voltage is allowed to set and change in BIOS.

    HELP..................

Test each stick individually using Memtest 86+ version 4.10

Make sure to use the single DIMM slot recommended by your motherboard mfg if they have such a specification/recommendation

    Report back on your findings
    MSI Big Bang xPower x58
    Intel i7 950
    GSkill DDR3 2000 6x2Gb
    Gigabyte GTX 460 x2 SLi
OCZ Vertex 2 SSD - OS Drive
    WD Black 640Gb x2 RAID0 - Apps and Programs
WD Black 1Tb backup and storage
    Corsair TX950W
Water cooling - Swiftech and DangerDen

Tested each stick with memtest and each stick is fine. I checked the motherboard manual that it supports SS and DS so the RAM should be able to work with this board.......

      Thanks.

If everything was working correctly for a week and has just recently started acting up, something is up.

Based on the fact that your memory passed Memtest, you have to consider that you have a problem with another component - which could possibly be the motherboard..........

Thanks for your response and advice.

I do consider that. However, even though I say the computer has been up for a week, the total hours of this week is less than 2 hands full. A few hours up in this week is not a lot though.

I am thinking about doing the RMA. As I am shooting in the dark, should I also do both, for RAM and MB exchange?

Thanks for your advice again. I really appreciate it.

It's hard to make a recommendation here one way or another. Based on the Memtest findings I doubt that your RAM is faulty.

However, if you have any doubt you should just go ahead and RMA both.
